I bought this set for my son's birthday, and he absolutely loves it. It's been almost a month and it still hasn't left our kitchen table. There are a lot of intricate little pieces, but it came together pretty nicely. Even assembled, it still fits "flat" in the box (easy storage without having to disassemble the entire set). The 18+ suggestion is for the artistic/collector side of things, I think; my son just turned 6 but he's already building sets designed for 9+ with minimal assistance, and he handles his LEGO gently (LEGO stay on the table, Duplo can go on the floor). I grew up w/ Sonic games, and I was delighted with the level of detail in this set, and the clever ways the designers brought it all together. We both had fun putting it together. ... show more
