  • Great quality, outstanding price!
This is the first Lee brand die set I've owned and I'm very impressed with the quality and craftsmanship of the dies. All my other dies are RCBS and Lyman and I have to say that the Lee band is on par if not better in fit and finish. Many re-loaders look down on Lee because their prices are somewhat lower than their competitors and imply they are cheap quality. I was also skeptical of the Lee brand until I purchased a Lee hand primer that I found to be superior to the competitor's versions. For that reason I decided to give their .40 cal S&W carbide die set a try. I could not be happier with this purchase. It was somewhat less expensive than the other brands and even included a shell holder and powder dipper. I installed the die set in my Lyman T-mag turret; they fit and work flawlessly. One of the first things I noticed when installing the dies was how smooth they screwed into the turret. Although they fit firmly into holes, there was little drag or "coarseness" between the die and turret threads. They adjusted just like any other brand die, and locked them down. They stayed in spec through 350 rounds that I ran though them. I did not have to use any case lube so it is safe to assume these dies have a sufficient quantity of good carbide in them. And as a bonus, the Lee shell holder fits perfectly into my Lyman press. It may or may not be useful to you if you have a press other than Lyman or Lee as many manufactures use unique shell holder or shell plates. Since I have a full set of Lee powder dippers I have the Lee powder chart that shows the approximate amount of powder it will hold based upon the powder band/type. I use IMR4756 and Win 231 powders and this dipper does approximately 5 grains on average. I hand load and check every charge with a scale so knowing approximately how much powder is in the dipper is a good starting point. If you are looking for a good quality set of dies at a very reasonable price, give Lee brand a look. I don't think you will be disappointed. ... show more

  • Great dies, very poor shipment packing.
Lee die sets always work well. I’ve been using them for years. Price went down right after I purchased them and they were a day late. Beware of Amazon packing though. Just threw the set in a box with no packing. Busted the die box open and beat the crap of the box and die set. Looked like it went through a tumbler but besides being a bit dinged up, they are still usable. Dies are great, packing was horrible. Should return them just for that and would have paid less as well! ... show more

  • Excellent value
Just finished loading 200 rounds of .40 cal ammo, smooth as silk. As a fourty-year reloader with an extensive collection of equipment, I say that this die set is every bit as good as RCBS or any other dies I own or have used. GREAT deal.

  • work great, and much less expensive than other brands
these work just as advertised. Much cheaper. It also included a shell holder!. My only gripe is the plastic box. it is not hinged nor does it indicate the caliber on any sides. If you stack this you must look at the top for info, or write it on the side yourself. I will surely buy more however

  • Only needed decapping die
I bought the .40 call set. Literally only bought the set for the decapping and sizing die. The die that comes with the Dillon 650, and 750 I imagine, doesn't remove the "Glock bulge" which caused my rounds to fail the case guage. I was losing ~10% or more of my rounds to the practice bin before I switched to the Lee die. Now I'm down to than 2-3% ... show more

  • Great Product
I have purchased Lee Carbide die sets in other calibers and have found them all to be excellent. They work as advertised and I've yet to find any flaws. I like that they don't collect deposits on their surfaces the way the steel dies tend to do. Even though lubricant is not required I use a little when I'm depriming because it makes it a little smoother/easier. I deprime before I run my brass through the tumbler because I like to get the primer pockets cleaned in the process, so my casings are pretty dirty when I run them through. I also like the Lee dies because I can use the Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure for handgun loads, which saves a lot of time. I have no complaints about these die sets and will stick with them in the future. ... show more

  • New to reloading
Being new to reloading, I had minimal difficulty setting the dies up for my Press. I had an experience reloading tutoring me. He uses RCBS reloading gear. He was very impressed by the quality and ease of use of the Lee dies. I have so far reloaded about 500 rounds without a single failure. Like that the dies come with the proper Shell Holder for the round being reloaded. ... show more
