  • Read this for battery/charging/temperature/heat fix
Color: Black
This is my advice…before you plug it in the first time, cool it down in a refrigerator or an air conditioner…I know it sounds crazy, but that’s what worked for me…I had initially just plugged it in straight out of the box, but it WOULD NOT CHARGE PAST 14%…then it said battery temperature too high for charging…so while you have it cooling down, download and open the ledger app…now plug the ledger in and hopefully it will charge long enough to get through the firmware updating…THE OLD FIRMWARE SEEMS TO BE THE ISSUE…you might need to cool it down again to get to the firmware update step…once I updated the firmware, I stopped having any issues…yes, I realize how ridiculous this all sounds, but your next best option is to spend about DOUBLE THE MONEY ON A TREZOR…also for those wondering, it uses 24 words plus an optional additional password made up of lower and/or upper and/or special characters…the optional password can either be stored and mapped to another pin code or entered after the pin code, causing the device to reconfigure the wallets on the fly and thus not storing the passphrase on the device ... show more

  • Seems to be a good offline wallet
Color: Black
I have gone through the steps to set this up and it wasn't difficult, but it does take 30 minutes as indicated by the instructions. I'm new to crypto currency so I haven't downloaded anything to cold storage, but you will need a way to store your keys to anything you pull to cold storage. The main reason you pull crypto to cold storage is for safe keeping - as long as the crypto is active or in any hot storage solutions, it is at some level of risk of being hacked. But it likely isnt worth cost of moving to cold storage unless you plan on holding the crypto for some time. I didn't see the fees involved until later - you may want to check what your exchange charges to move to cold storage because each charges differently. There is at least one that offers a couple of moves to cold storage monthly if that is in your plans. I expected to be able to set up my own key on the device & all you can set up is the PIN you use to access its menu. The key that transfers between exchange and storage is preset when you go through the initial setup. Note that some receive wallets where the initial setup is complete. I did not receive on like this and I believe Ledger owns this account - at least if you go to the Ledger website, it points you back to this store to purchase wallets. If the initial setup were complete, there is no way I'd use this wallet. With the set up passphrase, you can set up any ledger wallet to match it. So be aware where you store that set of words. Using the actual device isn't too difficult, you have 2 buttons that scrolls through lists. When you click both at same time, you select whatever you are on. The most tedious part of setup is writing down all the words. There are 3 or 4 cards included to write the entries on. Once you have them, you will have to go through and pick the words in order they go in. I thought I messed up and was having to start with a new passphrase - the screens look very similar when you are asked to verify. Once that is complete, you are set to download crypto applications. Each type of crypto has an application to match. This is why many buy this version of a wallet rather than the cheaper one Ledger makes. The cheaper one only has enough storage for 2 or 3 types of crypto to display at any one time. Be aware, you can delete the app after downloading your crypto keys. You will just be able to quickly access the keys for any app that is currently installed. Since I do not know how many I will store, I felt like it'd be easiest to invest now and not have to worry later. One key differentiator is which crypto can be stored on each wallet. They dont all match. If you want to put anything unusual into cold storage, you need to make sure your wallet supports it. This wallet supports way more types of coins than my exchange offers in the US and in my state. Crypto is limited for which can be purchased at the US level and at the state level. Also which exchanges can be used is limited the same way. ... show more

  • This Thing Is Great, But With A High Learning Curve.
Color: Pastel Green
Keep your crypto on an exchange? You fool. The Ledger is the only way to keep your crypto safe. It's a great little device that stores your crypto without worrying if it will go under or disappear into thin air. The Ledger is amazing, yet it has it flaws. Ledger has a very high learning curve, it can be super complicated for new users and is not very forgiving to new crypto traders. Yet there is hope for a measly 9.99$ you can backup your ledger with Ledger Live. I have accidentally deleted or miss sent tons of crypto but you learn from your mistakes. Is keeping your ledger backed up with ledger Live safe? What happens if they get hacked? I'm sure we are all worrying for nothing. Maybe. One thought why does it constantly want me to login to my Ledger Live backup account? Made me think I was having issues. ... show more
