Before I bought this aerator, I read some comments about how this one was too difficult to assemble and, how the spikes/screws barely fit. I understand that some people have difficulties assembling things. Truth to be told, this aerator is so easy to assemble. It took me less than 20 minutes, from unpacking to done, while watching Big Noon show. First, it is not that the spikes/screws barely fit. They need to be screwed through the base, then you put the nut, so they won't become loose. Second, the provided tool is good enough to tighten the nuts. I recommend using a socket wrench.     • Should do the trick of aerating your lawn
It was a little tedious to assemble and as long as you have the right tools, it will be easier. I’d assemble the handle first before the base. I haven’t tried it yet since it has been in the 30’s to 40’s here so am waiting for a a day in the high 40’s to 50’s to come around

Good concept, bad execution. Of the 28 holes, most did not seem to be quite the right size to match the spikes. Need a hammer for some, as do not screw into the holes. I call this bad engineering or poor quality control. The tiny supplied wrench is totally inadequate, but a strong wrench that works better is too big to easily use where needed (see photo). The spikes are such low quality that one broke as trying to turn it with a wrench (see photo of broken spike head). Broken and bent spikes should not be a surprise if rocks or hard soils, assuming you can assemble this. Unfortunately, I struggled with assembly beyond the 30-day return period. So, essentially wasted $30+ for a useless bunch of nails, a pile of bolts and two pieces of black-painted scrap metal. I ordered a 5-Tine Heavy Duty Pitch Fork for Gardening, which needs no assembly and should be able to poke holes in the ground without breaking. ... show more

Easy to assemble, easy to use. Don't use it for a large area all in one sitting! I did that and it snapped. Contacted the company and they were pleasant enough to send a replacement out.

    • unassembled and nothing lines up
this comes completely unassembled and in my case returned by the prior person as I can tell from all the scratches on it but still it was just a tool and I needed it so I thought I would try to assemble it. About half of the screws fit through the holes the other half did not and the ones that did fit through the holes are so close together and the tool they give you is worthless for assembly that I had to get my own tools and even then couldn’t get in there to tighten anything it was just awful and then you have to step on top of the screws and some of them went all the way down and some of them werent even because I could not literally get the screws thru the hole.     • Too much time needed for the assembly
Keep in mind that you’ll have to screw and bolt every spike on this thing. Took me a good 30mn before I could use it. Overall, it does the job. I noticed that some spikes bent, probably because of a rock in the grass?
