  • Launch X431 V+ Pro, Make or Break?
I originally bought Launch X431 V+ Pro as a back-up to my new Autel Ultra that has a bad power button . The tablet itself is very high quality and find myself doing a lot of other things as well, being Android based. It is very easy to connect to vehicles and get a lot of features and data with graphing that I would get with the Autel or Snap-on scanners. I am an ASE Master Tech and Have experience with many types of scanners and programmers and for the price, I was very pleased with this purchase. It says it can do key programming but have not use it yet for this so I don't know how in depth it can go. Maybe next year I'll just purchase the full version . I used the original Launch back in the early 2000's and remembering it being way before its time compared to the Snap-On scanners. Definitely a MAKE if you need to do some advanced diagnostics without spending your life savings. ... show more

  • Much to Explore and Learn
There are lots of full reviews out there provided by people much more qualified than me, so I will provide just a few thoughts from a pretty technically minded layperson. This is a huge step up from simple code readers, but I try to justify the expense by using it as a general purpose Android tablet also. It is great for watching episodes of Workaholics on Hulu while chopping onions in the kitchen. I am impressed by the extensive capabilities that likely extend well beyond what I will ever need. So far, I have only connected it to a 2002 CR-V and 2004 Titan. I liked that I could purchase $10 keys on Amazon and was able to program the Titan to authorize them as ignition keys with little effort or additional expense beyond having them cut for a couple bucks at the hardware store. Ace sells cut and programmed keys for about $80 each. I find the GUI quite easy to navigate and use, but there are a lot of YouTube videos out there for help when you need it. It comes with a ginormous case and a ton of adapters for various vehicles that I will probably never use, but if I worked at a shop I would be glad I had them. I wish the case was about a third the size, but I just keep the tablet in a cloth sleeve on my coffee table for everyday use, including watching YouTube videos on vehicle diagnostics. There is a ton of free knowledge out there. If you get this or a similar scantool, I would recommend spending lots of time studying, and lots of time hooking it up to vehicles in your free time to get used to the menus and functionality. I am now so into this diagnostic stuff that my next tool purchase will likely be a labscope. That, combined with the Launch scantool in the hands of someone technically minded, will set you far apart from the average brake pad and waterpump changing line mechanic. It costs $300 per year to keep the thing updated, but that is an expense that I expect to rarely, if ever, incur. It comes with two years of free updates, which would cover me through the 2022 model year, and even after that vehicles are far more likely to be serviced by the dealer while under warranty, so it is unlikely that I should ever need capabilities specific to anything short of the year 2026. By that time I expect OBD3 will dominate the scene and current scan tools may be useless on new models anyway. Regardless, there will still be a ton of OBD2 vehicles on the road, and it will still be useful for watching reruns on Hulu. As of now, I would buy it again, especially at the $995 sale price that I took advantage of that convinced me to chose this over the Diagun V. ... show more

  • Very good customer support
I have been using this scanner for a couple weeks now. I am a DIY with limited use of scanners. Had one OBDII scanner for before this reader. So far I have been able to diagnose an issue with a 2500HD duramax transmission. My earlier scanner showed a DTC but it was more of a general one. This scanner was able to point me to a more specific problem to help me narrow down the issue. Changed out a window on our Volvo and it was able to re-learn the window for correct operation. I was pretty sure the reader could help me with that but had trouble finding it in the myriad of options. Sent an email to customer service and had an answer in 24 hours. If I used a scanner more, I would probably be more familiar with alot of the acronyms but give it time. Finally I was able to relearn a key fob/key for my 2012 Focus. It died on me about a year ago. Found the settings and did a reset on the keys. Both are now working great. It is not a do everything tool but I think it will be a good addition to my tool box ... show more

  • great scanner. easy to use. great for the price!!
I bought this scanner 3 months ago and expected it to be an alright scanner. I have been using it for three months now and it has been the best scanner I ever had. it does everything it promises it does. Have programmed keys and remotes, great for car diagnostics, air bag module programming, etc. I have been in the car repair business for over 40 years and lately, lacking a good scanner, I had to depend on other shops for some of my work, which costed me money. I was afraid I would need to spend 3 or 4 grands for an Snap-On or Matco machine. this Launch scanner took good care of that issue. Only had some problem registering the scanner but their technical staff took care of that quick. I do recommend this to anybody who wants a very good scanner without spending several thousand dollars for it. buy it. you will like it. ... show more
