  • Time (and hair growth) will tell...
Looking at this Laser hair remover, it seems as though it would be comfortable to hold and use. It's ok, but for me I wish the handle was a little shorter, but that's probably just me and my carpal tunnel wrist and bad elbow. I have fair skin, medium blonde hair (with some graying temples) and for the most part, my facial hair is on the lighter side too, but I've noticed hormones and age are bringing out some darker hair, and i would love to reduce my facial hair. Laser treatment itself is fairly comfortable. Because of having fair skin, I've noticed the "hair roots" appearing as a black "spot" in some places, almost like a blackhead (which I don't usually get). Maybe it's the "heating up of the hair root in the hair follicle/pore? I haven't been able to determine less hair yet, but with 999,900 "flashes" I've got some time to determine its effectiveness. ... show more

  • Easy to use, Takes Time
This device doesn't work very quickly but it does work. The quality is a bit of a question to me. It feels very flimsy and inexpensive for the asking price. It does remove hair, fairly painlessly. You do have to go very slow and carefully. The counter is crazy to me and pointless. A life cycle indicator would've made more sense to me. ... show more

  • Time will tell
My first impression of this device was that it seemed a bit cheaply made with plastic buttons that look like they were formed with low precision. It comes with a throwaway razor for prepping the hair removal site and a pair of light plastic sunglasses to protect from the flashes of light (though I found the flashes quite bright even when the device was fully against my skin, so I try to close my eyes and look away at the time of the flash as well). The included instructions were not very detailed, so I did a fair amount of reading up on similar devices from other brands to get suggestions for use before attempting to use this one. The device has a power on/off button, a mode button to adjust the intensity between 1 to 5 bars, and a flash button, which is pressed once for a single flash or held down for a few seconds to enter the continual flash mode, which allows you to move the device around for the next flash after a couple seconds without needing to press the button again. The LCD screen has a countdown from 999000, which represents the number of flashes in the life of the device, which seems quite oddly specific to me and a not very useful thing to prominently display on the device. I'm curious what would happen if the countdown reaches zero -- will the device just stop working even if it could have otherwise continued? It's such a high number, though, I don't foresee myself reaching it. The process itself has been pretty easy, though it does require a fair amount of time to be devoted and multiple sessions per week (plus shaving beforehand each time). It hasn't been painful for me, just a fleeting hot twinge every now and then (when a missed hair heats up against the skin surface). Reading up on IPL devices, people with different skin and hair types have differing experiences. With light skin and dark hair, I am a prime candidate for IPL, and the provided instructions suggest the highest intensity levels are compatible with light skin and dark hair. After 4 weeks of use with 2-4 sessions per week, the included materials suggest I should be starting to see results, they state at this stage I should expect that "more than 75% gross hair starts to fall off naturally" but I haven't noticed much difference yet. The materials do state that it may take up to 8 weeks before "there is no hair grows any more for most people" so I suppose time will tell. So far, though, I'm not highly impressed. ... show more

  • Basic entry level IPL. Lower wattage (36W)
It was only a matter of time before the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) devices for hair removal dropped in price. There are now many options available on Amazon, and some, like this one, at prices that are a fraction of the prices of the original offerings. The thing is, almost all these IPL devices offer the basic functionality of hair removal. Higher-end models offer such features as "ICE" active cooling and/or multiple filters for different effects. But if your focus is entirely on hair removal at the lowest price, to a large part your decision can be driven by price. Then, among these lower-priced units, it will come down to ergonomics. There are two basic designs for these IPL devices: Oblong (like this one) or gun-shaped. I prefer the gun shape--it's easier to hold and control. But the oblong is OK. Button design can also vary. This model features a pretty big flash button easily pressed when the IPL device is in your hand (see photos). Specifics of this IPL device: ** Only performs hair removal. ** NO ICE skin cooling functionality ** Lower wattage IPL (36W) ** LCD screen shows number of flashes left and power level (1-5) ** "Oblong" shaped unit--a bit cumbersome in the hand ** The power cord attaches to the end of the unit (see photos) ** No attachments to change the flash end shape ** Rated for about 999,990 flashes, 5 power levels. Using very slow-motion photography, I was able to capture a split-second snapshot of the light (see photos). But the light duration is extremely short. You run the tool over the area where you want to remove hair and make sure you expose all the hair follicles in that region. You will not see any immediate results. The light signals your hair to stop growing, but it requires multiple treatments over several weeks before you will be expected to see results. Eventually, you should find a substantial reduction in the hair in the treated areas. In the box, you get the tool, a power cord, a pair of eye protection glasses, a cheap disposable razor, plus instructions. This tool is rated for about 999,980 flashes. (So it should probably last longer than your interest in it). This IPL device only offers IPL hair removal functionality. For many, that will be enough. It seems to work well. I wish this were "gun" shaped rather than oblong, and at 36W it's one of the lower wattage IPL devices (many are 48W and some go up to 60W). At the end of the day, you'll probably want to compare the price of this device to other entry level IPLs, and choose partially on that basis. Pros: ** LCD display of flashes/power Cons: ** No ICE cooling ** Low/mid power supply (36W) ** Not as cheap as some IPL devices offering similar functionality ... show more
