  • Definitely helps with two dogs (Final update added)
Style: Hammock Size: 55" Wide Color: Hampton Sand
I got this for our Corgi and Canaan to ride in my 2008 Fusion. The Corgi would demand so much of the seat, the Canaan had to sit with paws on the edge of the seat. The Corgi would also try to scoot up to the front seat. My goals were to protect the seat, provide a way to keep the Canaan from slipping off the seat, and to keep the Corgi in the back where he belongs. So far this fills the bill. I gave this only 3 stars. It definitely helps with the reason I bought it. But there are some things I wish were better, and I can't vouch for the long term durability. It fits my back seat, but the design could be better. If it were a bit wider, the excess could fit down between seat and door and help keep the dogs from exposing the edge of the back seat as they get in. My Fusion does not have large enough headrests in the back seat to hook the hammock on. Instead, I had to use the child seat anchors. Threading the straps through them works well. The instructions say to slip the bungee cord under the seat to anchor the hammock to the seat. Unfortunately, there is no way to do that on the Fusion. The cord is anchored too far forward. It rises enough in front the Corgi can't scoot through the front seats to get up where I don't want him. The Canaan now has enough room to lay down and not fear falling to the floor. It could use a bit more width, and the bungee in a better location. I'm not sure of any better way to fasten to a back seat when you don't have the requisite headrest. But, it would be nice to have more options. I've used this for a month and a half so far, and it works well. I can't speak to how the material will hold up. But so far it is holding up very well. Right now my wife drives a two-door. It isn't practical to use the hammock in that type of car because the dogs can't get in easily. We are getting my wife a different car. I'm getting her a hammock so she can take the dogs with her too. An unexpected benefit: my wife got some potted roses to plant. I put them on the hammock for the ride home. The roses rode well sitting on the hammock. They leaked onto the cover and the interior was protected. The mess cleaned up easily too. If you have dogs, and a 4-door car, this is definitely worth considering for the back seat. Update: Since first publishing my review, I've transferred this to a 2006 Ford F150 FX4. It fits across the seat same as it did in the Fusion. A little more width would have been nice. It is a bit of a stretch from the back to the headrests on the front seats. It seems a bit tight fit around the posts of the headrests. A slightly longer strap would help. But, it does fit. There is more room under the hammock to stow some gear on the floor. I have upped this to a 4-star rating because it definitely fits the wider gap of the back seat of the pickup. However, it still has the width issue and the the straps to fasten the front around the headrest posts could be a bit longer. Update: 20110917 Used this to take my corgi with me for a 2200 mile trip. It worked out great! Used a dog bed for him to rest on which helped raise him up a bit. Gear was stowed under the hammock on the floor. Also slipped some stuff on the seat to the side and under the hammock. To remove dog hair I just put on a pair of latex gloves and run my hands along it. You do have to clear the velcro of hair, especially if it parts while loading and unloading around the hammock, or the dog manages to work it loose. Still wish it were a tad wider though. And maybe just a bit more reach from front to back. But, overall I'm very glad I bought this for the dogs. Update: 20120524 If I could, I'ld now give it 4 1/2 stars. As you can see, I've had this in use for quite awhile now. And it is still holding up great! Not only that, but when I'm working fence, I can toss tools in the back on it and it protects the seat. I've had tarps, hand tools, heavy bags of softner salt, groceries, all kinds of things that find their way in the back seat of my FX4 cab when it is raining out, or has to be kept secured. This was definitely one of my better purchases for my vehicle. Update: 20140130 Well, it is finally showing its age. Starting to sag by the backs of the front seats. (Odd, I'm starting to sag out front too?) A rolled up dog bed fills the 'trench' and keeps the old Corgi (14 yo now) out of it. Still water resistant. But velcro for openings in the hammock have to be cleared of dog hair from time-to-time. (With 2 dogs that is not at all surprising.) Had to replace one strap that broke at a buckle, but used a short piece of rope rather than resewing with webbing. In its defense, a lot more than just dogs have been kept off the floor by it. Overall, it is well worth the cost. When this one finally has to be replaced I'll be looking for the same as a replacement. Final note: Because of how long it has held up; the loads it has held up with; and the fact it has never really given me any significant issues at all, it now deserves a 5-star rating. 20170429-I know I had said the last was the final update, but wanted to add this final comment on the original hammock I was using. Gus died 2014. He was a trooper. My new girl, Dixie, now rides in his place. I finally replaced the original hammock last winter. The backing was finally cracking and flaking off enough, and some of the straps fraying that I decided to just install the new one in the back of my F150. I don't think anyone can go wrong with this product. It had held up almost 6 years. ... show more

  • Works great for kids in Honda Civic 2006
Style: Bench Seat Cover Size: 55" Wide Color: Charcoal Grey
I don't have pets, but my kids can make a real mess of upholstery with food spills, shoes on the seats, and being dirty/sweaty from sports. This provides great protection and seems very durable. Compared to custom seat covers, I like that this could be removed and replaced pretty quickly if necessary and also switched to other vehicles if needed (when I get a new car for example). One of my son's complained once that it is not as comfortable to sit on. Probably because it is not breathable. It is also not as soft since it is cordura nylon, which feels similar to canvas. The complaint has not been repeated and I am OK with a little trade off in comfort since they are the ones who made this protection necessary. Plus this is preferable to nagging them about food spills and shoes. This is a whole lot better than trying to keep towels on the seats, which did not stay in place or protect that well. The grey color is a perfect match to my upholstery, which is a medium gray color, but would also probably look fine in other color interiors as well. The fit is very good for my 2006 Civic. Since it is designed to drape over the seat, it would fit many vehicles. The strap that goes behind the seat back doesn't really have anywhere to go on this car where they would be effective, but they are not really needed anyway. The seat belt for the center seating position is hidden and there is no way to use it with the cover in place. We do not use that seating position anyway. With the windows down and the seat empty, it will billow in the wind, but this is not a serious problem and can be ignored. The cover will settle back pretty much in place and could easily be neatened if desired. Wish I had gotten this years ago. ... show more

  • First place of what's available
Style: Bench Seat Cover Size: 55" Wide Color: Hampton Sand
Short version: I purchased this and the Solvit to compare both and find one thats fits best in my car. If you have a large raised bench seat as found in trucks and suv's then i would recommend the Solvit cover, it should fit fine and the quality of materials between the two covers are comparable. See my review of the Solvit cover. If you have a sedan, especially with a folding rear seat, then the kurgo would suit you better. ***See install tips at bottom if nothing else*** Detailed: I installed this cover first and it took 20-30 minutes to make all the adjustments to make it fit as good as possible, but now that it's adjusted, all straps have buckles so it "saves" the settings and it took less than 5 minutes to reinstall after I decided to keep this one over the Solvit. This seems well made and the extra storage pockets are a plus for waste bags, toys, etc. If you have a sedan with a standard size rear seat that folds down, then this cover is as close as you can get to a perfect fit without getting a custom cover. One reviewer complained about difficulty being able to install it, but it only goes one way, the two buckle straps go around the headrests, the rest falls in place and you just have to work it into place and make adjustments to get the best fit. The strap that goes around behind the folding seat holds it back against the seat and helps prevent lateral movement, and I'm not sure why the other reviewer couldn't get this strapped either. You fold down the seats, buckle it together, tighten, and then fold the seats back up. This is as good a fit as can be expected from a universal seat cover. It really should be labeled for sedans with folding seats as I believe this is what it was modeled around, and vice versa for the Solvit as it seems to be designed around an SUV/truck. I will agree that the bungee that holds down the front corners is lacking, but I would suggest pulling it out and replacing with 550 cord that doesn't stretch and securing it that way for a tighter fit. This doesn't have the PVC insert to go between the back and seat like the Solvit, but in my opinion that didn't hold it that tight and the rear strap around the seat seems to be holding it snugly in place. An additional bonus that isn't expressed in the picture is that it has enough material on the backrest sides, with a seam that makes it seem to be on purpose, to tuck the sides in between the folding seat and side of the car, which provides additional support. I also had just enough material around the seat front bottom and sides to tuck it in between the floor and cushion which again provides more support to hold in place. I really liked the extra protection for the sides and front of the seat, but this also doubles to make it look more like a custom seat cover and thought out, not just a blanket with straps thrown down on top like the Solvit. The one area of concern I had for either cover was the seatbelt slits, which I wanted, but was worried about liquid running back and going right though the slits. This cover did a better job than the Solvit, at least how it fit my car, by having those slots about an inch or two higher up the back so if liquid runs back it shouldnt reach high enough to get through the hole. It also has Velcro flaps to cover the holes when not in use which should prevent too much crud from getting between the cover and seat. This cover is nearly perfect except for a few areas of improvement that I would be more than willing to pay extra for. My suggestion to both companies is if you are going to make a "waterproof cover" but have large holes where liquid is just going to run right through, then use waterproof zippers and flaps so they can be closed when not in use and prevent the waterproof cover becoming useless when liquid just goes right through the intentional holes. Second, for this cover, there should be a thicker edge piping at the seat bottom seam so it can be pushed between the seat bottom and floor. this will provide additional holding power when wedged in, similar to the Solvit PVC pipe concept, but in the front of the seat instead as the rear strap on this seems to hold well in place of the PVC. ***Install Tips*** Some suggestions for install and ensured long life. I would not recommend machine washing these. The instructions for the kurgo say front loader only, no agitator post machines. Both of these covers are laminated plastic on the back of the material which provides the waterproofing. Some reviewers complained about the material cracking and coming off after washing. These covers are no doubt kept in your car during extreme hot and cold temps which I'm sure will eventually shrink and expand the laminate enough to crack it, machine washing it by cramming it in any washer and wrinkling it will only expedite this process. The best option if an accident happens it to use some mild cleaner, hose it off, and hang dry. Second, during install the straps that go around the headrest, reviewers complained about these sewn straps tearing away from the cover. During my first install I immediately realized why and how to avoid this. When you install you are most likely just reaching in your car and then you tighten these headrest straps down. With no weight on the seat they are fine, but when someone sits down or a dog jumps in, these are pulled down tighter by their weight and will no doubt tear in short order. What I recommend most is that you do not tighten these down until the end. When ready, sit in the seat first, then reach back and tighten just snug while your weight is pulling it down. Then move to the other side and do the same. This makes for a slightly looser looking fit, but will prevent any tearing since the additional weight is compensated for and only the weight of the cover is ever put on the sewn straps. ... show more
