Excellent value for the money. The "blue" model was hundreds less than the brown. Don't know why. The "blue" version is actually more like a seafoam green or teal color. Way better designed and constructed than any typical third world bolt together shade. All the parts are correct, fit, and were clearly labeled. Nothing was missing - indeed - the package includes a few extras of each bolt and fitting. All the bolts torque properly with no fear of stripping or slipping. Nothing dented. Nothing damaged. The packaging (105 lbs) was strong, undamaged and internally solid so nothing moved around. Each type of fitting was individually double packaged so nothing was lost even when a small plastic bag broke. Shipping was quick and accurate for such a large item. The instructions are - for the most part - very clear. It will take a number of hours to carefully build all the beams and poles before putting everything together. The up side is that all the parts can easily be handled by one person until final assembly. It will probably take an extra set of hands to hold up the four legs while the beams are bolted on. Once assembled, it seems strong enough. Time will tell. Installing and removing the cloth panel is time consuming. You probably won't want to remove it for storage at the end of the season unless you live in a really severe climate. THE ONLY DOWN SIDE to the unit is the latch that does/doesn't hold the shade open (or maybe doesn't hold it well enough to suit me). The unit used a couple of clips that are strong, but are very, very hard to use. Your experience might be different. My experience was bad enough that I spend a few hours designing and building a magnetic closure (using a standard 18" bar magnet from Harbor Freight) that works perfectly and looks like it was part of the kit. Again, maybe your experience will be better - or you may be less picky about how the canvas should open and close. All in all, a great product for the price - especially the $419 version. Update 5 years on in the Alabama sun: We are in the fifth year with this product. Last summer it was obvious that the cloth canopy was reaching the end of its life - so we ordered a replacement - great that the new one was in stock. Installed this winter. Very impressed that all of the hardware still works perfectly - no corrosion since everything is stainless steel. No obvious corrosion anywhere on the structure and everything is still strong and tight. Mine is securely screwed to the second floor of a deck and does have some lateral metal supports which I added when first installed - but still - this is a great product for the money. If the quality is the same in 2025 as it was in mine in 2020 - you won't be disappointed. ... show more

I must say, we are very please with this pergola for our application. Very well made, pretty light weight and easy to assemble. Just take your time and use a drill on low torque as there are a lot of fasteners. Lots of extra hardware included. fit and finish very nice when assembled. We have a upper deck on the back of our house with southern exposure. We mounted this pergola on the 2nd level deck primarily for sun protection and shade. We screwed the foot plate to the joists and it sturdy for all kinds of weather. We leave the sun shade retracted unless we are using it. The sun shade material quality is good, but we imagine it will need replaced every few years. The fabric shade rolling mechanism is basically small wheels in a grove which should hold up well unless abused. Neighbors have seen it up and complemented us on how nice this product looks. Everyone asks what the base plate dimensions are and nobody seems to answer correctly, and the diagram is wrong so I thought I would lead with that. Anyway, I just finished putting this up and so far we really like it. It is so much better than having umbrellas and it is a really good size for our space. The price point is decent and if we get 3-4 seasons out of it I will be happy. Here are a few tips I wish someone has told me. - Study the pictures in the instructions AND read them. Don't skip. You will likely miss some stuff. - The vertical posts come in two sections that you screw together. There are also 4 square plastic collars in the box. These are meant to cover the seams between the two post sections and make it look nice. If you forget to add them before you screw them together you will be unhappy about it later. - Also for the vertical posts, the instructions say not to tighten the screws too much. Listen! You will strip the screw hole. It is cheap sheet metal. I stripped like 4 of them. Was able to fix 3. And had to glue 1. Be better than me. - I put all the sections together on the ground first before putting them all together. It just seemed easier that way. - I decided to anchor this with those 12"x12"x1.5" concrete stepping stones using 5/16"x1.5" concrete sleeve anchors. Each stone weighs 17lbs so together it adds an extra 68lbs. That and the structure weighing 106lbs I don't think it's going anywhere. I think the canopy would break off and fly away before the frame would. Oh, and YES you have to anchor in some way (everyone asks that). - There are 2 metal clips that are installed in the front beam. These are important as the canopy bar gets clipped into these to hold it closed. Also you will notice that the canopy itself has 2 extra slots on one end of it. These slots are where the cross bar is exposed that clips into the metal clips. Pay attention to all this before you install the canopy. If you get it wrong you will have to redo it and it is a pain. I got lucky and did it right the first time completely by accident. Remember step 1 - study the pictures! ... show more

I am a 5’7 woman and it was so difficult for me to put this together. It took nearly 10 hours- a full day- of building. While I was building one of the longs metal beams was bending way more than I would have hoped it could. My hands are in so much pain from using the Allen wrench all day on this god forsaken thing. Directions are typically vague. Some of the holes do not line up with where the screws need to be also. It’s very heavy so make sure you have help if you purchase this. I will never buy this again. Next time I’ll go to Home Depot and pay someone to come put it together. It better last forever since it cost me $370 and a full day of my life! ... show more
