About Kosterina: When Katerina Mountanos founded Kosterina in 2016 her goal was simple: to share authentic Greek olive oil beyond the Mediterranean region. This became extremely important to her after realizing that nearly 70% of all olive oil sold in the US as authentic EVOO did not actually meet official extra virgin standards, resulting in olive oil that was missing the rich flavor and health benefits of authentic EVOO. She teamed up with farmers in the Peloponnese region of Greece, home to the Kosterina family and the Koroneiki olive, to begin the meticulous process of producing early-harvest, cold-pressed EVOO. Cold-pressing, which allows EVOO to maintain a high polyphenol content, is required for EVOO to be considered authentic. Polyphenols are micronutrients that occur naturally in plants and have free- radical-fighting properties — the higher the polyphenol content, the better! EVOO is a timeless super ingredient that Kosterina has perfected by combining traditional and modern Mediterranean flavors with superior health benefits.

I absolutely love my Kosterina olive oil. It's definitely one of the stars of my collection of olive oils, so when I saw that the brand was branching out into skincare, I just had to try it! This facial oil feels wonderful on my skin. It's made from 100% pure early-harvested extra virgin olive oil. Early harvesting conserves the naturally occurring antioxidants and polyphenols found in olives, so this product can offer all those anti-inflammatory, hydrating, and anti-aging effects. I like to use this as the last step in my skincare routine, sometimes even using it in place of my usual moisturizer. It feels fantastic and hydrates well, but is also very lightweight and silky. Best of all, it doesn't leave an oily sheen. As much as I love this product, as well as the brand, I do have one criticism. I can't find any information anywhere to indicate whether or not the products in Kosterina's skincare line are cruelty-free. They definitely aren't endorsed or recognized by PETA or Leaping Bunny. I suspect this is due to their being a relatively young company, as well as one whose focus has primarily been on food production, not personal care products. Since their products are made in Greece and Italy, where animal testing is prohibited under EU regulations, and I can't find any evidence of their line being sold in China or anywhere else where animal testing is legally compulsory, I believe Kosterina can be considered to be a cruelty-free company. I do wish they'd make that commitment to their customers, perhaps even seeking certification through an animal welfare organization. I'll update my review if I find out otherwise, but for now, I feel pretty confident recommending Kosterina as a cruelty-free brand, and it's very easy to recommend their wonderful facial oil! ... show more

Holy cow, this oil is absolutely heavenly! I already use my own mix of oils in my daily routine (twice per day), but I've never tried olive oil. Despite so many people raving about it (including celebrities), I always felt weird about using "cooking oil" on my face. Well, color me ignorant. I washed my face, put on some toner, then added this oil as my last step. (Since I was trying out this oil for the first time, I skipped a moisturizer because I wanted to see how well it does on its own.) The instructions say to use 2-3 drops to cover your entire face. That may very well work, but I used 7 drops for my face and 3 drops for my neck. Reasons being: 1) I like heavier products because I use actives six days per week (morning and night), and 2) I feel like I'm doing a lot of unnecessary tugging on my skin when I apply a little bit of product, then try to work it in. What I normally do is, after I put my skincare products on, I apply a disposable plastic cover on my face (you can find them on Amazon - they're shaped like a sheet mask, but don't absorb your products, but instead create sort of a sauna effect and make your products absorb better), then use a jade roller to work the products in (I feel like this is more sanitary than using the roller directly on my face). The first time I used this oil, I didn't do anything extra (other than rubbing it in with my hands), because I wanted to see how quickly it would absorb on its own and what it would do for my face. It didn't take long at all for my skin to absorb the oil (probably would have taken even less if I used the suggested 2-3 drops), and what was left is AMAZINGLY soft skin. It's a huge no-no to touch your face after you apply products, but I can't stop touching it. Maybe that's just the smell of olive oil (don't remember ever specifically smelling any ever), but to me this had a scent of something like rosemary maybe. I generally don't like rosemary, but it didn't bother me and it didn't linger. I will absolutely add this oil to my morning and nighttime skincare routine. Depending on your needs, you can also mix some of your moisturizer and this oil in the palm of your hand, then apply together. Some may be deterred by the hefty price tag ($42.00 at the time of this review) of this oil, but the bottle will probably last several months and the benefits seem more than worth it. It takes a good while to fully absorb and can be oily otherwise. If you use very, very little and/or have dry skin and some time, you might be able to use this under makeup. It has an exotic woody scent. It comes in a glass bottle with a bulb dropper. It comes in a box, unsealed. It's a little pricey at $42, but face oils often are pricier and this one goes an especially long way. ... show more

    • Very Nice Face Oil
This is a very nice face oil that I have been using to layer over my retinol. It is very hydrating and my skin absorbs it well. It did not leave my skin feeling too oily the next day, rather very moisturized. It caused no irritation or break outs to my skin. It smells very nice.
