Description

The Kaossilator Pro+ is packed with 250 programs, including more of the cutting-edge synth sounds that Korg is known for. Like all Kaoss-based products, this versatile new instrument offers creative musical possibilities and intuitive control over multiple parameters simply by moving a finger across the X-Y touchpad.Sixty two of the onboard sounds have been inspired by current musical genres, including familiar leads and synth basses, along with sound effects for DJ use. Also of note are the 26 drum sounds that have been especially enhanced. Updated drum PCM includes sounds from Korg's acclaimed Wavedrum percussion synth for greater performance variety. With a single Kaossilator Pro+ users can perform hip-hop, chiptune, house, dubstep, new disco, electro, reggaeton, and drum 'n' bass, or they can create their own genre.Loop Recording can be set for up to four measures (16 beats), and performances on the Kaossilator Pro+ can be recorded into the four onboard internal Loop Recorder Banks. By adding (overdubbing) additional sounds one at a time, inspired looped phrases can be created ranging from minimal to fully orchestrated. The four infinitely loop-able banks can be combined, muted or un-muted, their volume adjusted, and their loop lengths changed - making live performance and arranging easy and fun for everyone. The Kaossilator Pro+ provides line inputs and a mic input to allow recording of external audio sources as well. This makes it easy to add a vocal, or additional audio to any loop phrase created on the Kaossilator Pro+.User-friendly Key and Scale features ensure that even beginners can play notes that will match the song being performed. Players can choose any of 35 scales, ranging from popular scales such as chromatic, major pentatonic, and minor blues, to unusual scales such as Spanish, Ryukyu, and Raga. Then by using the Key setting to specify a musical key or "root," users can play perfect solos without wrong notes. In addition, the Note Range

  • Great gadget, even though "pro" might not be the best adjective
Fun, easy to use, nice sounds. I doesn't have a lot of room for customization, the presets are good enough, but I'd nice to have some preset customization capabilities. You can choose from 250 presets (basses, drum kits, drum patterns, leads, etc..), you set the scale and play with the pad and use the 4 loop banks. That's it. You can create great loops very easily. Nice gadget to add to your set. Pros: -Nice presets / korg sound -Easy to use -Robust construction, feels nice to the touch -External input / output connections, easy to combine with your gear. I use a DAW with Midi controller that's goes to the Kaossilator, then to back to the PC with Traktor... So I have VSTs, the Kaossilator and decks all combined. Con's -Poor Midi implementation, difficult to use as synth (doesn't read midi notes, only CCs ). It isn't impossible to do, but not easy either. -Pad is nice and intuitive, but it's difficult to hit the note you desire. -Having a SD slot is cool, but loading/saving stops sounds completely. -No customization of presets. ... show more

  • Great original way to play a instrument .
Really intuitive way of playing a Instrument . And you get a drum sequencer to boot . I can't believe they don't sell these at retail stores , this works great as a entry level instrument but has enough features for a professional too . Really cool .

  • More fun than a barrel of electric Kool-aid.
The x-y axis touch screen has a very playable surface. One can play a legato lead on, e.g. flute or trumpet, much more realistically than on a touch pad like the Push. However, the omission of a visible grid makes it very difficult to solo with precision. The note grid only lights when and where you touch it. This makes it very difficult to remove your finger and return to the same note when moving more than a third. Also, the note grid is so small that its easy to strike two or three notes by accident. Not a problem when in portamento, a bummer when not. The biggest nuisance is in the delete/erase function. Once you have overdubbed, you cannot erase the last tonal addition without erasing the underlying notes. You can partially erase but the erasure cuts through the entire depth of the loop bank, cutting every layer of the overdubbed track. A simple undo function would allow you to erase the last layer added. The voices are not my choices. As a jazz musician, I would choose a different collection of voices-more midi instruments and fewer dub-step drones. Buy it? I can't say. I vacillated up to the return date. Every few hundred bucks on a gadget takes from the new DAW or amp budget. AMENDED REVIEW. Returned one and bought another. This time purchased an extended no-fault warranty. The seller suggested that any small complicated piece of electronics that you play by beating with your fingers may be prone to breakage. He was right. The new one developed a sonic leak where random notes from the solo start bleeding into the recorded rhythm channels. I haven't returned it for repair because of separation anxiety. I own 3 synthesizers but don't want to separate from this crazy bad boy for a month. My initial review was premature. Once you get used to the screen you can solo with wild abandon. My non-keyboard friends want one, little kids beg to play it; it's only missing an applause sound effect so that I can make my Carnegie Hall standing ovation fantasies more realistic. I've changed my rating from 3 to 5 stars based on sheer fun factor. ... show more

  • So satisfying!
Excellent product. I am no professional, but with this and my microKorg I can come up with some nice, on the fly drone and ambient music. The looping allows for a load of creativity, since you can loop external sources. I am not very well versed with midi, but I am learning. I was able to hook this up to my Note Pro 12.2 via an OTG cable and used it with G-Stomper studio just for a moment, to mess around with. I have hardly even scratched the surface of all the capabilities with this awesome instrument. It feels solid, has a nice weight to it and does not feel flimsy in any way. Another great Korg product! ... show more

  • Fun!
I’ve had a Maschine MK3 for a couple years now and just found it to be overkill. I wanted to try something that was less complex, that didn’t need to be connected to a computer, and wasn’t terribly expensive. This guy delivered. I’ve spent a couple dozen hours playing and have never come up with the same song twice. Not even close. The sound is glorious. The pad is responsive, button and nobs great quality. But there’s a couple things that keep it from a perfect 5 star rating IMO: - No undo. I can understand technically why it’s not available, but still hurts. It really stinks to have a killer loop ruined by an accidental punch in, and I’d say 80% of the time it happens to me. - No quantization. Again, understandable, but it’s missed. The arpeggiator kind of helps, but does not fully replace. - No metronome. This to me is the biggest oversight and one that IMO could be easily addressed. You have to start recording loops with some sort of arpeggio pulse or else, without quantization, the chances of laying down a perfect first loop are slim. It really inhibits creativity IMO. It’s great to put in lap, strap on headphones and jam. And it’s tremendous cranked up thru stereo. I spend hours playing, and have asked Santa for the kaoss pad to couple with it. Definitely recommend, but just wish the above were not issues keeping it from perfection. ... show more

  • REALLY fun noise toy
If you're not a well-trained musician but love making and experimenting with sounds this is a fantasic expensive toy to play with. If you ARE a musician then this is a fantastic instrument to add to your arsenal. At 10 years old or more now it's STILL a great device. It can do a lot, and acts like 4 kaossilators in one. I actually have my mk1 plugged into the input so now it's 5. ... show more
