  • Fits Oversized Tires
Size: XL K55
After getting a new car I originally got a set of SCC cable tire chains because they seemed more popular, less expensive, had better availability, and claimed to fit my 285/40R19 tires. When it came time to try them out, I discovered they didn’t fit — neither I nor the salesmen at the auto parts and tire stores could get them on. So I put in an order for these Konig chains. They had to be delivered from the UK and are relatively expensive (both base cost plus shipping), but after making the necessary adjustments I was able to get them to fit my tires without much difficulty. They’re much easier to install than the other chains too, as it doesn’t require any reaching behind the wheel. One thing I do need to note is that the manual recommends removing just 1 adjustment pin for this tire size, but I couldn’t get it on until I had removed 4 pins. I haven’t needed to use these on snowy roads yet so I can’t comment on their durability or how well the car drives with them. ... show more

  • Easy to install. Haven’t road tested them yet, but they look like they’ll work.

  • Not as easy to put on as claimed, but effective
Size: XXL K66
There aren't a lot of options for chains on a Tesla Model Y Performance, so this is pretty much what I had to go with. The build quality is great, and once they're on they perform admirably. That said, they're kind of a pain to put on properly. You -really- have to shove them on. I watched some videos of people putting them on, and my guess is they put them on but never really drove in the chains. They have to be seated all the way on the tire, deeper than you get just by shoving them on like a lot of videos show. If you don't, they'll come off. And the piece that tightens on to your lugnuts does not tighten as much as it seems, so they'll likely come off your wheel and then just fall away entirely if they do come off and you didn't tighten them so much you're worried about shearing one of them off. That said, once you've practice multiple times, they do work great. ... show more

Having had a chance to use them in snow yet, but they went on easy and fit snug the first time during my setup and trial run.

  • I LOVE how easy these chains go on
Size: K22
I bought these chains 5 years ago to use on my Toyota Prius. I live in snow country and my 500 foot long driveway is steep and faces north. I end up needing to chain up about half a dozen days per year to get up my driveway. I LOVE how easy these chains go on!. I had the kind with cable you fasten behind the tire before and that was a real pain on the prius because of low clearance over the tire. These go on like a dream, less than 2 minutes each, no kneeling in the snow, much less laying down. Traction is good. I'm not sure if it's as good as "regular" chains or not because I moved to the steep driveway at the same time I bought these chains, but it is usually "good enough". I was within a week of the 5 year warranty window when one of the chains failed. It failed as the pivot between the arm that clamps on the lug nut and the strap, I think due to spinning trying to come up the driveway. I checked Thule's web site for the warranty and saw they characterize it as "bring it". I contacted them, sent some pictures of the failure and received a new set of chains within two weeks. I could not be happier with the company or the product. ... show more

  • WARNING: Lug nut adaptor design flaw, leading to certain failure and eventual loss of chain(s).
Size: XXL K66
These chains are dangerous as currently designed and manufactured - but fixing them would be fairly straight forward and inexpensive. Thule/Konig needs to recall these chains *until* they offer a replacement for the faulty lug adaptors. The manufacturer modified the lug nut adaptor for their K-Summit XXL snow tire chains to provide a "universal fit" for a variety of lug nut sizes. In theory, this is a good idea, to reduce the confusion as to which part should be used... but sadly, their solution results in an *ABSOLUTE CERTAIN LOSS OF THE CHAIN* while in use. This can result in loss of control of the vehicle, and possible harm to the vehicle and the passengers. This new lug nut adaptor design is faulty. It *WILL* lose one or more of the gripping teeth required to safely and correctly attach the chains to the tire as the chains are installed and removed - especially if your car has lug nuts sized in the upper end of the 17-24mm design range. The more you use these chains, the more likely you will lose one or both of them, as the teeth are easily dislodged when when you install the chains. If you have dislodged or lost a tooth *THE CHAINS WILL GIVE YOU A FALSE INDICATION THAT THE CHAIN IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY* even if it is not. Prior lug nut adaptors on their similarly designed tire chains were not adjustable, you had to select the correct adaptor for your vehicle, based on the size of your lug nuts. They came in 2 parts (see photos), the gripping teeth, and the outer retaining shield. All of the gripping teeth were made of a single piece of metal, and this kept them from being dislodged during installation (or lost completely during use). At some point, they changed over to the current adjustable design, that relies on the proper retention of the lug adaptor teeth by single rubber o-ring. The entire chain's ability to function is based on a rubber part that costs less than $0.01. Failure of this rubber o-ring will result in complete failure of the tire chain. The manufacturer does NOT seem to sell replacements, or a non-adjustable adaptor for the K-Summit XXL snow tire chains (they do sell non-adjustable 21-22mm adaptors for the K-Summit XL series, which may be a good replacement if your car has 21-22mm lug nuts). The adjustable lug adaptors are designed to not be repairable, and once any of the teeth have become dislodged or have fallen out (and this *WILL* happen based on their design), the chain is no longer usable. While these chains do have a 5 year warranty as indicated on the box... there's no paperwork inside the box indicating how one would file a warranty claim, nor what is covered by the warranty. Thankfully I tried these out and they failed prior to being in the snow, and needing them to work. ... show more

  • Used once- quick on and off... chain control guys were checking it out...
Size: XL K55
as they hadn't seen these chains before. Mounted the K55's on my 235/55-18's. Practice at home and watch the various YouTube videos before having to do the real thing. Once you figure it out, it should not take to long to install (5-10 minutes each side). I brought along a ratcheting wrench with the proper socket size to speed things up. Don't over-crank- once you see that red line show through, I stopped. I think people who cranked down that belt strap one more time experienced the loss of their cables while driving. ... show more
