  • A Cloud Lifter at a much lower price
I bought a pair of these for a couple of ribbon microphones. They run off phantom power and deliver an uncolored boost making them usable with modern preamps. Much cheaper than Cloud Lifter. Well made and has lasted over a year and a half with no issues.

  • Better than the CM1
I've had both the CM1 and CT1 and the CT1 is clearer, yet warmer as well. Awesome piece of equipment

  • Does the job & sounds fine - Imperfect connection with my mic & XLR
I am not an audio person, so I can't comment too much on the sound quality. It does what it should and increases the gain of my Shure SM48S, and I personally can't hear any noticeable issues. However, I am having trouble getting a proper connection to my devices. The female end connects loosely to the bottom of my mic, such that the Klark Teknik latches on but has a significant wiggle. Attached is a picture of the female connector of this device and the female end of one of my XLR cables - perhaps it's the slightly slimmer, non-stepped O-ring that is causing this issue? On the other end, my XLR cable's male end isn't able to push into the bottom of the Klark Teknik far enough to latch. The bottom connection is snug and doesn't wiggle or disconnect easily - it just doesn't latch for me. I have a cheap AmazonBasics XLR cable, so maybe it's the cable's issue. However, plugging my XLR directly into my Shure mic creates a very snug connection that latches. ... show more

  • Compact, quiet, low cost solution for gain hungry dynamic microphones.
I bought this unit due to the compact size thinking it may be a nice portable solution for field recording with some dynamic microphones that require higher gain. It was so cheap it was almost an afterthought. It took several weeks for me to receive it amid the current CCP viral pandemic. It appears well made out of aluminum and seems like a higher quality mass produced product. It is heavy, had nice packaging, solid appearing connectors that fit my Mogami cables (clicked in securely), and a clean smooth finish! A cheap looking serial number sticker is affixed to the unit - it was applied crooked and really detracts from an otherwise very nice looking product. This should have been laser etched in my opinion. As to performance, I tried it on a couple of microphones and compared it to my other microphone pre-preamplifiers (Cloudlifter CL-1 & Cathedral Pipes Durham). I found the noise levels all very low but both the CL-1 and Durham required less preamp gain compared to the Klark Teknik unit in order to reach similar loudness levels. I was a little surprised as it was noticeable. I am unsure if this is unique to my unit or the couple of microphones tested so I plan to spend some additional time using the unit and update the review if I find variation with other microphones. ... show more

  • Excellent booster
This is a great addition to any low gain dynamic mic. I use it on an SM7, and can basically plug it into even the subpar pre's on the interface. I did start out with with it going into a Neve clone, but that proved to be a bit much. Was definitely planning on picking up a couple more, but unfortunately the price has almost tripled since I bought mine for $33 less than a year ago. I'm sure the company realized what they had and upped the price to match the competitors. Now it seems more reasonable to perhaps try another brand, for comparison. ... show more

  • Fantastic preamp!!!
I hope it's not too soon to celebrate, but so far I LOVE this thing! It boosts the mic volume quite a lot on my Zoom R24 recorder so that the volume hiss is gone. I was able to get the vocals (in my demos) nice and loud without a lot of noise floor. So far, I'm very happy with this product. Also, I didn't need any phantom power to use it. (Edit: I actually do need phantom power if I am not running my mic through my effects pedal. It doesn't seem to work as well without the pedal, even with phantom power turned on, but maybe my recorder is just not performing as it should anyway. When paired with the pedal, the adapter is totally wonderful.) This little thing is very powerful, so you really have to make sure to turn the volume down low enough so that it doesn't clip. It's great that one doesn't need to turn it up as high because that means much less hiss and noise in the final recording! Everyone has a different set up, so your mileage may vary. (Remember that this is for dynamic mics, and other passive mics, not condenser mics.) ... show more

  • Great little booster. Highly recommended.
I have been using the CT 1 for two months in my home studio with excellent results. My signal chain is: SM57 > Mic Booster CT 1 > no-name XLR > MBox 2 Mini > USB port on laptop PC > Audacity. My measurement tools are just my own ears. In practical terms, the input signal is noticeably higher, and I do not detect any changes in tone coloration nor added noise. My application is voice work for corporate training content and podcasting. The attached image my shows results using the above signal chain, 48v phantom power, input gain set to 3:00, and speaking [silence] "the red fox jumped over the lazy dog" [silence]. Track 1 is the SM57 only. Track 2 is the SM57 + CT 1. Let your eyes be the judge! The build quality is good enough for my home studio use. Fitment is comfortably tight/secure. This simple device has elevated the quality of my recordings using my existing gear with no learning curve. ... show more
