The eyepiece blocks out more of the light and makes it easier to read through the viewfinder. One thing I had trouble with was getting the screws out to change the eye cup. Thought the screw driver was too small and had trouble getting the screws out with it. Fortunately I had a set of fine screw drivers which gave me better leverage. That was the only problem I had. I Liked EVERYHING about this new addition for my Canon T8i/850D. I can't speak for other camera bodies, but I know it fits perfect on my camera. It was easy to put on. The rubber is soft and pliable but NOT too soft. It allows me the little extra distance, so my nose isn't too pressed in against the camera body and it blocks a lot of background light. I've bought this brand eyepiece for two cameras so far. They are great. They are maybe 1/4" longer than the OEM eyepiece. Just enough to keep the schnoz of the viewing window on my camera. Quality is excellent. Comparable to OEM. There are two tiny screws on the bottom of the OEM eyepiece. Remove them, and pull off the OEM eyepiece. Put the new one on and put the two screws back in.
