  • Good idea, with room for improvements
I have a Trex deck, and the installation was easy. My top deck is where my grills sit, so I had plenty of space below to install the washers and wing nuts. I was able to install this myself by putting the top part through my deck, then going below and putting washer on, tilting the screw against the wood to hold it tight and get the wing nut on as far as I could with my fingers in the way. Then grab the bottom side of the screw to do the final tightening. The order of piece is: 1 Bolt -> Large Washer -> Rubber strap -> Large Washer --- DECK --- Large Washer -> Small washer -> Wing Nut. The main reason I wanted the tie down is to help hold my grill in place during wind. The warnings on the listing are that the strap is for 40lb max. So there is a good chance that these may not hold up, but we'll see. My negatives. For the cost, you don't really get a lot. Almost everything could be picked up at a big box store. The Rubber is the main key item in the kit, and so far that's been working great. ... show more

  • Good idea, kind of pricey for what you get.
I like the thought process of this and didn't really look at the design closely when I ordered it. I assumed based on the price, that it was designed to be able to mount from the top of the deck, and it is not that way and you need 2 people if it's not on the edge of the deck to install. Unfortunately, the placement that I needed these to be was more of the center of the deck, and to keep the critters out I have lattice panels backed with chicken wire at the base of the deck and can't get under it. With access and two people I think it would be good. I like that it doesn't require drilling into the floor boards and goes in between them. I can still use them but I will use a wood screw instead of the bolt and wing nut, and put the screw shank in between the boards and then screw into the joists below. Frankly, there is not much to it. 4 sets of a 2 1/2" bolt, a wing nut, 3 washers, 1 lock washer and a stretchy strap. I'm a DIY guy and this is easy for me to get together, but I also understand many folks are not, so there is a value to this. ... show more

  • need two people to install
Overall, I think these anchors worked well. They came with everything needed (straps, bolts, washers and wingnuts). I used them to hold down a 10X10 canopy on my deck for a party. I put up the canopy and ran the bolt through the strap and into the gap between the deck boards. This was all good except that I needed to go downstairs, find the bolt, get a ladder and try to put the wingnut on the bolt that kept wiggling. I tried using a pair of needle nose pliers to hold the bolt while I put on the wingnut but that only worked on one of the four bolts. I ended up having my wife hold the bolt from the deck while I put on and screwed down the wingnut. I also had my wife hold the bolts while I undid the wingnut after the event. Not ideal but doable. ... show more

  • Must have access to underneath
These are great, as long as you have access to underneath the deck and have gaps between the boards. I can secure my easy up tent on my deck without drilling into the wood now.

  • Works on my Trex Deck
Got these to use as an anchor for my BBQ during the winter months. Easy installation and should be fine to hold things in place during high winds.

  • Not the best design, but it works...kinda
We live on a lake and it gets pretty breezy. We needed something to be able to anchor our big patio umbrella to the deck when it's windy. I had gerry-rigged a couple of different ways, but they looked really bad and were in the way. This is a decent solution. They lay flat on the deck when we are not using them, and it's fairly easy to clip onto the rubber part with a carabiner. However, most installations are going to require crawling underneath the deck, which is not always an option. Fortunately, I installed these very close to the front edge so I didn't have to try to crawl under the deck. Also, the washers, bolts, and wingnuts that they are made with a very wimpy. I'm pretty sure that before the end of the summer one or both of these will be pulled up through the deck boards. For now they're doing the job, but I'm keeping my eye out for something better. ... show more

  • Functional but a little janky.
These work but you have to be able to reach under the deck to attach the wing nut and to tighten them. I think there could have been a much more elegant design that would allow you to do it all from the top of the deck. These did meet our need to anchor an umbrella but they really aren't anything special. • Love the engineering on these tie downs
Was looking for a way to tie down my canopy on my deck, which is made of composite Trek boards, without drilling into the boards themselves and damaging them and then I saw this on Amazon. Work very nice between the gaps of your boards to strap down anything you need. Seem pretty durable.. time will surely tell, but so far so good. Great invention to avoid damaging your boards. ... show more
