I ordered Louis Carpini G2 violin (1/4 size) for my daughter who is 5,5 years old and has been playing for over a year and a half now. First of all, the customer service at Kennedy Violins is exceptional! I communicated with these guys from Europe and they did everything and above what is expected of a respectable firm. Especially Heather is nice and very helpful! (thank you H). All of them that work there are experts in their field and they do know what they are talking about. So, if you are a novice in violin business (like I am) they are the right address to talk to. The violin is really a work of art and produces beautiful sound. The G string blows me away since this is really a small instrument and one does not expect such depth and sustain from the G string. I compare it to the previous violin (also 1/4 size) I owe and...there is no comparison! The old one produced a dull twang of a sound when struck by a finger (pizzicato) whilst Carpini produces beautifully deep sound and lots of projection. The E string does not shrill and whine but responds with clear and happy tones. When playing scales the whole instrument resonates and echoes with clean and clear sounds. The pegs are superb as they stay and do not go out of tune. Micro tuners are really responsive too. Just a half of circle left or right and the pitch changes. I upgraded to Grade 2 Brazil wood bow and it is well balanced, strong and straight as an arrow. Joy to play with! You should have seen the face of my little one when she played first notes on Carpini. Her facial expression alone tells me I have invested my money wisely. The violin case is a story for itself. High quality workmanship. Attention to the detail. There is even built in humidity gauge. How cool is that! The only downside is that the little leather cord that ties around the neck of the violin is really weak. It was shorter on one side and way too long on the other and I wanted to level it by pulling the shorter side and... it snapped. Yes, and now there is this long cord on one side and really short one on the other. They should have put a Velcro or something similar instead. It is too late for that now (sigh). I especially like as you open the case the violin is ready for playing as it has been set up by professional luthier. Even the bow is pre-rosined. All in all, a great deal. This violin is AMAZING!! I got the 4/4 one and its amazing! Super easy to tune and stays in tune even in cold, dry weather (I'm in utah). The sound is excellent. If you're a beginner, I suggest getting a finger placement sticker since it doesnt come with one but other than that it's great! It comes with a full set of extra strings and some great resin for rosining the bow. The case itself is something all it's own! It comes with a humidity meter and a place for two bows as well as lots of extra spaces for storage. It closes with two zippers, a latch and a magnetic closure so you never have to worry about it falling out of the case. It also comes with two straps for the case. Another thing I was impressed with was that it even came with the quality check from Kennedy violins and a way to contact them along with a poster that has all of the parts of the violin and basic care instructions to hang in a music room. ... show more

    • Non-Upgradeable Chin Rest

Item has chin rest glued. Removed chin rest to replace with a more comfortable one and found violin finish underneath is ruined due to overtightening of stock chin rest and placement with some adhesive compound. Very disappointed as now I have to purchase another violin because this one is essentially ruined and will have to be put in the waste bin. Item also was not tuned and ready to play out of the box as advertised however it is not difficult to tune. Provided rosin is cheap and needed to be replaced and misleading regarding shoulder rest as it was advertised to include one however one was not sent with the one I received again did not matter as I already had a shoulder rest but just something to consider if you are considering this as an option for a student or yourself. ... show more

This violin really surprised me. The quality of craftsmanship down to the last detail is outstanding. The flamed maple one piece back is incredibly beautiful and the ebony fingerboard, pegs, chin rest and tailpiece are high quality. The sound is also very impressive. I own a Pfretzschner from the early 1900’s that is a canon of sound, and the lower end of this Carpini is strikingly similar in tone and resonance. Very impressive.
