Description

A considerably new wood for Erhu with very good results. Learning from western counterparts, who used the E.African Blackwood for oboes, clarinets and bassoons, Erhu makers use it for the same reasons. This dense (1.09kg/dm3) wood holds high frequency pitches very well, resulting in an erhu that is versatile in performing highly virtuositic music. The erhu vibrates very well, with an added advantage in the high registers. The midtones are definitely strong and defined for ensemble and orchestra performance.

  • Good quality
Bought it for my dad who is intermediate learner. He loved it.

  • Huge upgrade over student model
I bought my first or who from another Amazon seller for $150. It was good for practicing on but sounded terrible no matter what I did. This instrument sounds much better. Open notes are comparable to violin, but when played as the traditional sound. The dragon head on top also looks really cool.

  • Really good value for what you get!
The erhu is dense and heavy. The dragonhead handle is quite a bit heavier than the one on a regular erhu. Since the erhu is so inexpensive, I didn't have much expectation. I was presently surprised with the sound quality. I changed the bridge and the bow to higher quality parts. The final product is actually not bad. Even the case is of a high quality. This is a really good deal! ... show more

  • Quality instrument
Expertly crafted instrument! I've never played bowed instruments before, so I have a lot of learning to do. But I can tell a lot of care was put into this instrument when it was made. If you are considering making a purchase of an arhu, then please consider this seller. This is not a sham from China where the item listed is never delivered or not what it seems to be. This is the real deal! ... show more
