  • Works well when new but the pump locks up solid if it remains unused for months after siphoning gas.
This is a good product when it's new. The price is right and it works well to begin with. But I've ultimately had to throw away more than one for my use case. I have a gas-fueled generator and have to fully drain the generator's 6-gallon tank when rotating to fresh, stabilized, ethanol-free gas. I use this to get the siphon going to transfer the generator gas to jerry cans to be used in our cars . But that's my only use for this product so it then sits unused for 7 to 9 months before it's time to rotate fuel again. (The fuel is stabilized to remain viable for up to 12 months). When I try to re-use the siphon after that long a period of non-use, the pump has locked up solid and will no longer work. I've tried flushing water through this immediately after completing the gas rotation but that didn't help. It's still worth having; just buy more than one if you don't use it often enough to keep it working freely. ... show more

  • Does it's job
Cheapest price for the type of pump and it does what it is supposed to. Hasn't broke yet. Hard to clean though.

  • Works alright
This pump works alright. It could definitely work better but you can get the job done with it. It was a good price, so it was a decent purchase because of that.

  • Great for water, one hose came crimped.
Works well, we use it for a water pump from a 6 gallon jug. It's a non-standard one so other pumps designed for 5 gal jugs don't work. The only issue with the pump itself is that you have to make sure the water is drained and the tube empty otherwise it makes a mess. Also one of the hoses came came crimped and won't open up all the way, but we cut that portion off. ... show more

  • A couple of things to consider
I just wanted an inexpensive siphon pump to fill some gas powered machines so I could stop getting an occasional sip of gasoline from sucking on hoses out in the field. This pump will do it, but there are a couple of things that range from silly to downright bad. Apparently the manufacturer expects you to "clean the pump with soapy water" after siphoning "petrol, oil or any flammable liquid". If this is for perceived safety reasons to CYA, I'm OK with the concept (but won't do it). If it's because the materials the pump is made of will swell, rot, or decay, I would NOT be happy. Which is it? The other thing is that I decided to disassemble the pump for inspection, since it's supposedly sooo easy to disassemble (not particularly), and discovered copious amounts of gelatenous grease in the pump barrel, which had I not discovered, would have been siphoned into the fuel of my expensive OHV. I removed the grease. If it's silicone, or a water based lube, it would have been very bad for my fuel injected vehicle. If it was some kind of petroleum grease, I still wouldn't have wanted it in there. I think the manufacturer REALLY messed up here. If this thing doesn't last a while, and doesn't pump gasoline routinely, I would drop the star rating down to 2 or even 1. Time will tell. ... show more

  • Gets the job done in a pinch
What I like is the ease of set up. What I didn’t like was the ease of set up works against you. The hoses kink and pop of as a result of the suction. It’s like trying to suck a frosty (Wendy’s) through a straw with the hose provided. The pump is a great design but as with most vampire pumps it would work better if it had a continuous flow once suction and flow is established rather than the continuous arm workout. ... show more

  • If you need a hand pump that works, this is the one.
This little pump was great. Came with everything I needed to get the job done. I had to remove 14 gallons of diesel fuel from my BobCat Skidsteer 7753, with enough suction to pick up contaminants from the bottom of the tank. It had to lift and transfer the fuel and suspected contaminants approximately 1-1/2 feet to be put into a clear container for examination. It took about 30 minutes to pump the tank empty, which calculates to about a 1/2 gallon a minute. Good exercise for the arms and upper body too. Not hard to operate, but it is not automatic, but the price is right. Do not buy a pump that does not say FOR FUEL TRANSFER. I smoked a battery powered lube oil pump trying to pump this fuel. ... show more

  • Worked as advertised, could use longer hose
I'm sure most people are purchasing this product for a specific reason in their mind. For me it was to drain the outdoor water well at our family cabin for the winter. After years of watching my father suction the water out with his mouth and a piece of tubing I figured there had to be a better way. After several years of looking at this hand pump each fall, I finally purchased it this year on a whim. After a few minutes of fidgeting around with getting the hose down into the well casing, lo and behold, it actually worked to my surprise. My only complaint is the length of the tube is much shorter than I needed. I was actually able to pull the end around a piece of pex tubing, but imagine doing that a few more times will rip the hose. ... show more

  • Tubing is too flimsy and kinks.
The red plastic tubing definitely needs to have a thicker wall...the suction side collapses and kinks, making it very slow and requires too much force to work effectively.

  • (The pump works great by the way
Okay, so the idea is simple. Attach a couple of plastic hoses to the pump. Find a container to put the old fluid in, pump a couple of times and bingo the job is done. Not so much! For my purposes I had to use the smaller hose and go down the dip stick tube in my Honda outboard 4 stroke that had been overfilled with oil. I followed the instructions and all I did was collapse the hoses. (The pump works great by the way.) So, I eliminated the larger red hose, wrapped the small hose adapter with plumbers tape and stuck it directly into the pump. Worked great. So, bottom line, you can make anything work if you are willing to work at it. Now off to the hardware store, because yes, I did take out too much oil. One last thing. When you are done you will have several hoses with oil in them that wants to drip everywhere. I am using the fold the hose over at the end and put one of those springy paperclips over the bend method. Let me know if you come up with a better idea. ... show more

  • Works fine with the pump handle on the bottom
Plastic pump works fine once I figured out the pump needs to be upside down to work (Pump handle below body of the pump). Good water flow. I liked the 2 sizes of hose provided. The instructions were minimal to the point of not being useful. Having the pump handle under the body of the pump makes it awkward to use but it worked fine for draining a fountain once I figured that out. ... show more

  • This is for little Jamy and Donald.
So normally I don't leave reviews but the company sent me an e-mailed with an amusing note saying if I wrote a review, little Jamy would grow a little and there grumpy employee Donald would not be so grumpy. Made me chuckle so here is my review. This pump does what it is supposed to do. However it feels a little cheap. Everything came just fine nothing broken, the red hoses had some kinks but didn't stop it from doing it's job. This works best when pumping from an elevated place to a container at a lower level, but you can pump any way you want with a lot hard work as long as the hose is submerged. ... show more

  • Efficient & Useful For CVT Fluid Exchange
This worked great for changing out the CVT fluid (transmission fluid) in my ‘08 Altima coupe that didn’t have a drain under the car. I siphoned out the old fluid from the charging tube, measured what was taken out, and then used a funnel to replace the old fluid with new fluid. Worked like a charm. My only complaints are that 1) it said it would automatically transfer the liquid after 3-4 (prime) pumps, but this never happened - maybe I did something wrong here. 2) the actual amount of fluid that was pushed out with each manual pump was very small, therefore it took quite some time to do 4 quarts of fluid. For the price, I am 100% satisfied. ... show more
