  • FANTASTIC Touch-up product
Style: Repair Kit
Recent move causeed a lot of scratches and dings to expensive solid oak and cherry kitchen table, chairs, and matching bar stools. Cost to refinish was astronomical. Bought these pens and crayons. Can custom blend for desired shade when, as instructed, you use the lightest compatible color pen first. REMARKABLY GREAT results! Great value and easy to use. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Different scrapes!
Style: Repair Kit
I believe that this product could work well on other floors. However, we have plank wood flooring. Instead of using ice melt, we found a less abrasive sand mixture. To prevent the ground from pitting. After we had people over, we notice that they tracked a lot of it in on their shoes and it made its way under our bar stools. Which caused very deep scrapes in the wood. I tried the wax crayons and the markers. It didn’t help. I don’t think it was the product itself that was poor, I believe it was the depth of the scrape. Had it been a lighter scrape, I think this would have worked well! ... show more

  • Tricks for using the markers and the wax
Style: Repair Kit
The markers are intensely colored and dry quickly, so you need to be light-handed when applying them and quick-handed when wiping the excess ink away. Just for reference, I used these markers extensively over a sealed white oak floor stained a very dark brown that had numerous scratches from a contractor who had a nail in his boot. (Thanks.) I used the mahogany marker primarily, but layered it over or under the lighter and darker markers to match the variations in color across the scratches. In a nutshell, these markers worked extremely well for the purpose. A very few scratches resisted the ink or just took on too much ink even when using the lightest color. (Be very careful using the cherry marker. It looks very red even dark wood.) Starting small and testing is wise. Because of their broad point, it's easy to overstain the margins of a narrow scratch. Whenever I didn't remove the ink as fast as I applied it, the ink sealed itself to the wood and looked obvious. So, I learned to start off by testing a small portion of the scratch with the lightest color I thought would work and wiping the ink off immediately with a dry paper towel. I either went back over it with the same marker if the first pass proved to be too light, or shifted to a darker shade. I found that if I layered the colors (dark over light or light over dark), I could handily match most areas of the scratches. I discovered that I could "remove" or lessen the visual impact of ink that had been overdrawn on the margins of scratches simply by redrawing over the area and quickly wiping. Where Where the ink didn't come off entirely, it had the effect of feathering the color and making it look subtle. Again, this was on sealed, dark wood. You'd never have a hope of doing that to unsealed wood. It might work on sealed blond wood, but you'd need to test and have fast hands. The wax for me was more trouble than it was worth, but I did manage to jam a lighter color than I needed into some of the deeper scratches (that took work) and then applied the lightest marker over that, gradually used darker markers (wiping as I went) to achieve the desired results. Endless combinations there--too many, frankly. All-in-all, pretty darn good. ... show more

  • Know what these are before you buy.
Style: Repair Kit
Background: I wanted to hide blemishes on “Golden Oak” stained oak wood. After correcting any colors that was either scratched off or faded from sun, water or otherwise faded. After fixing any discolored surfaces, I was changing their color from “golden oak” to “dark oak”. Our kitchen had been completely remodeled with new cabinets, entry molding & window trims installed in the late nineties. We also installed new Corian countertops, new sinks, faucets etc. Our kitchen remained in excellent condition. The oak cabinets portion of our remodel was quite expensive, well designed & this oak wood wears like iron. We had just become dissatisfied with the golden oak color as these colors seemed dated. Now to the review of these pens which are different colors of permanent markers. The ink dries immediately. They can be of great value if any of the colors match the surface they are applied to. I had also purchased some wood color touch up pens which contain wood stain. These type color pens are made by many companies, they cost as much for one pen as this set of 6 with the colored wax. Both types of these color pens can be the correct tool depending on intended usage. These ink types can be great if you are wishing to color a surface on which the color is faded. They hide the missing color immediately. The problem is finding a matching color. Unfortunately in this set all colors have a red hue except for black. So of the six pens in this set, I was only able to use black, i lessened the color by using 0000 steel wool and also using “Old English dark wood scratch cover. Otherwise, fortunately, I had an old set of the colored pens that had a color that matched our golden oak. I advise getting a set of these with the most colors to choose from. If you find one matching color pen it will be worth to cost of the entire sed. As for the colored wax, your fix would be better if using wood putty that you color to match. ... show more

  • Cheap Fix for Nicks in Wood Furniture and Floors
Style: Repair Kit
Ran across this kit on Amazon by accident. Thought I would give it a try to repair some nicks in my laminate flooring and also a large wooden entertainment center. I used both the pens and the crayons and both worked well. I was able to get a good match for both the light oak flooring and the darker cherry wood on the cabinet. It was quick and easy to use and the price was far cheaper than some individual pens I had seen elsewhere. Highly recommended. ... show more
