What's not to like about this KastKing Royal Legend II reel? It looks sharp, love the red and black, stands out. I bought the 4000 size model as I primarily fish for larger freshwater game fish...such as pike, muskie, trout, steelhead, and salmon. Therefore I needed the higher line capacity...this reel will balance out best with medium-heavy action rods, though I personally use this reel with a straight-up medium action 9-foot rod. I've always preferred the beefier reels because they give you more leverage and spool more line. There's few things more frustrating than hooking into a larger 15-25 lb fish far out then getting spooled because the reel could only hold 100-125 yds of line. No thanks on that. The 4000 size reel will easily hold 200 yds or so of 25-30 lb braid, which is plenty for the type of fishing that I enjoy. As far as smoothness, it's up there with Penn and Shimano reels that cost 3x as much. Retrieve is very nice. Good drag system...easy to adjust as well as consistent. I've owned reels that have had terrible drag adjusters...turn the dial a few clicks and the drag goes from very little resistance to break-your-line tension. No complaints about the drag system on this reel whatsoever. This is my first KastKing reel, and won't be my last. I'm hoping it holds up, time will tell. I take care of my reels, and keep them greased/lubed, screws tightened. Treat your reels like you would your prized sportscar...maintain them regularly, replace your line when it begins to look roughed up, use a quality reel lube and spray it down with Real Magic during the offseason to keep rust and corrosion away. Buff and polish it with a good carnuba wax, and run it through the car wash every so often to get the salt off of it if you fish saltwater. KastKing manufactures a good reel. I recommend them for anglers of all skill levels who want to keep their spouses happy. A $475 charge on the credit card for a fishing reel might result in some backlash. Buy one of these reels and see for yourself that a decent reel can be had for a reasonable cost...buy more than 1 and you'll have a back-up just in case that big fish spools you when you're least expecting it. ... show more

Great reel that casts pretty far. The only complaint is the retrieve could be smoother. You get what you pay for. All in all…I am happy with the reel and the 17 lbs of drag.

So far, I'm loving this reel! Its been super smoother and I haven't had one issue with it. I've caught 30 or 40 stripers on it over the past 6 weeks or so and its worked flawlessly. Definitely will buy another one!

Good looking reel on inbox. Reasonably solid and finish is good. Smooth, silent and very little play, bail opens and shuts as it should. No play in the rod stem, and action is positive without being clunky. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price I paid and I will update this review after it has had some proper time on the water. ... show more
