    • Best reel I have for the money
This reel is by far the best reel I own that cost less than $100. There are features on this reel that I like better than reels that cost 3 times as much. I love the knobs that have the rubberized grips like LEWS reels but this one costs nowhere near that price. The reel is smooth and easy to set up. I played with the drag system and it seems to be decent but i have not taken the reel apart to look at it internally. So far I have not lost a fish on it which to me means it works well. The brake system is a pretty standard magnetic brake which is easy to adjust. I paired this on a 7'2" medium heavy rod with 20 pound floro and it has worked great so far. I usually fish with right hand retrieve but decided to switch up and buy left hand which has been hard to get use to but that was my buying error not a problem with the reel. I would buy another and recommend this to anyone wanting a solid casting reel. ... show more

    • Great reel, but takes a second or two to get used to!
First off I'd like to say that Kastking did an amazing job on this reel. It is a very nice, smooth, cheap but durable, and reliable reel. One my first time out with it I paired it with 30lb braid and on my first cast, I got a backlash. I was kind of confused because I had set my tension control knob to the correct position but was still getting a bird's nest. I unscrewed the tension control knob, cleaned out the gears, and put it back on. For the rest of the day, the reel worked amazingly! If you seem to have this problem, or any other problem with your tension control knob just try unscrewing it and then screwing it on again, should solve your problem. Overall this is an amazing reel and I will definitely be buying more KastKing products, again well done KastKing. ... show more

    • Excellent reel that won’t break the bank!
Fairly new to using a baitcaster reel. Cannot beat the ease of use straight out of the box. The price was right so I figured I’d take a chance on it, not disappointed at all. Highly recommended to anglers looking for new reel but don’t want to spend a ton of money

For my spinning rods, I really like Kastking products. Sturdy, smooth, reliable and affordable. Not cheap. I believe they're pushing affordable innovation when it comes to fishing products. I kind of look at them like Cold Steel and their reputation in the knife industry. I decided on the Crixus to be my first baitcasting reel due to Kastking's reputation and reviews on Amazon. Not to mention just from use of their spinning rod products. I just received it today and am waiting on my baitcasting rod to get here. I'm pairing it with a Lew's TP1 speed stick. I don't know if that's overkill for a first baitcasting rod and reel, but i figure I could do worse. I'll update with my progression. So far just on looks alone, it looks great. It feels incredibly comfortable in my hands and is ergonically pleasant. Out of the reels ive owned it is super light. Just on research alone everything on the reel is easy to identify and easy to operate. I think once im going to have fun using this reel. Thanks Kastking for the great products. UPDATE: Living in San Diego i was able to finally take it out. Our harbors and lakes have been closed due to the pandemic. I paired it with a 7ft Lews crankbait tournament speed stick. Put on some 20lb braid and decided to use some topwater lures out here at Harbor Island. It took me a little bit to get the adjustments right. Im not sure if its due to my inexperience, but ive also read something similiar on other peoples comments, that once ive finally set the magnetic brakes (ive seem to have found a sweet spot on 7), its so high that it prevents you from casting far. Either than that, it looks great, reels great and im having fun with it. Just wish i could cast a mile. I settled on buying the dark star to see if that makes a difference. Have a good one guys.     • Phenomenal reel
This reel is buttery smooth, casts way out into the water, feels stout and looks awesome too. For the money, you can't go wrong. I've bought 2 because I loved them so much. I always struggled to find the "sweet spot" on adjusting a baitcasting reel but this Crixus reel is super easy to dial in. Drag feels strong on it. Braking system feels great on it also. I've threw a couple birds nests with it but nothing insane. They were easily picked out and I was back to fishing fast. Once you get your thumbing rhythm down with it, you won't throw birds nests. It's super easy to use and cast with as long as you practice some with it. This reel made me fall in love with baitcasting reels and feel more confident as a fisherman. It's just fun to fish with and I love that. Having fun with great equipment and out enjoying life amongst nature. Nothing better. Totally worth every penny. Thank you KastKing. ... show more

Seriously impressed with this reel. Well all KastKing products I've had as well. I bought this on a whim and I paired it up with a Favorite 6'6" MH fast "white bird" rod on 15 lb braid and it's an absolute dream setup. The thing is the smoothest reel I've ever used and I have a $350 Lew’s Pro-Ti SLP reel on a $150 St. Croix rod. I was throwing a 3/8 chatterbait 75 feet easily. It took no time for setup and any backlash I had was my own fault for the technique I was using. First time using it I caught over 20 bass and a great size catfish. The catfish definitely put the drag to the test but the reel just ate through it all. Seriously buy this reel and you won't be disappointed! Every KastKing product I've used has been great quality that is crazy affordable. I'm definitely going to be buying more of their stuff and supporting a quality company like this. Edit 10/10/2020: bought another one as a father's day gift. Still the best reel I've used to date. ... show more
