I like this lamp and have one on each side of my bed. The switch is about a foot down the cord with a touch sensitive on/off switch that can be swiped for dim/bright, and the plug goes into a standard American outlet. It has a solid round base that is somewhat reflective of the light it emits but does not get hot. I would not recommend for reading in bed.     • Only switch dimmable!
The ad made it sound like you can touch the light to dim it, BUT you must touch the switch which is on the electric cord! If I wanted to mess with a switch I would have bought a regular lamp. I like the look of it but it isn’t exactly what I thought I was buying based on description.

I should have read closer to view the measurements. Because of the price, I expected it to be a bit larger. I paid 45 bucks for a plastic lamp with a string of LED lights. It's not metal; therefore, In the long run I don't expect the metallic shine to remain. It's my fault for not reading closer as I'm a visual person. The picture is gorgeous. However, what I received was a very well-wrapped, plastic toy lamp. For a child's room? I like it but don't love it. It's value might realistically be $18.00...not $20 bucks--attributed to the unique design that caught my eye...and not the materials it's made from. I feel deceived. ... show more
