I recently purchased the YU6 speakers after knowing about Kanto for a couple years and am extremely pleased with them. I was interested in getting the Sub8V as well, but held off a bit to split the cost and see if I did like the YU6 before I went in on the sub. While the YU6 have strong bass, a sub is still needed to really bring out the lows. Now, the Sub8V may not hit the super low sub-bass frequencies, but it is a solid improvement over just having the YU6. Oddly enough, until now the older Sub8 had been priced higher than the revised one, but now it is going for less. Still, the extra 50W is probably worth the extra $40. My only complaint is that the finishes do not match between the speakers and the sub. The 300W version only comes in "Vinyl Matte" white or black. From what I could tell, the older 250W version had options for glossy fronts as well, but it looks like the rest of the housing would be the same matte finish. However, this is a very matte, textured finish, and does not match the YU6 flat (and certainly not the gloss versions). The YU6 flat black is smooth and somewhat reflective, unlike the Sub8V's extremely matte finish. I find it odd that they would not make them match. I would kick the rating up to 5 stars if they did release ones with matching finishes, because for speakers that clearly have an aim for aesthetic, they certainly missed the mark here. ... show more

I am using this as part of a 2.1 setup for PC gaming. It is plenty loud for this or just listening to music even loudly in a small room. It can get loud enough to make close neighbors angry, but not as loud as a ported 12 inch setup. I find the bass to be very clean for music compared to a ported setup. ... show more

    • Perfect complement to YU6 speakers

I purchased some Kanto YU6 speakers and they sounded "okay." Like many people I enjoy a wide range of music and they were missing a lot of low-end detail and power. Not just for bass-heavy music like hip-hop, but even things like the upright bass on jazz music or the kick drum in rock. This SUB8 was just what I needed to fill in all of the missing details and give the music its power back. I can run the whole system at a lower volume but get a better "punch" with the addition of the sub. It's a perfect size for my home office - it complements even the hardest of hip-hop but doesn't shake the whole house in a negative way. Its compact size and neutral looks fit right in with our décor. The adjustable crossover and volume work perfectly and the automatic power off and on is probably my second favorite feature after the rumble! Don't hesitate to spend the extra cash - it's worth it if you'll be listening to music for thousands of hours like I will. ... show more
