I collect berets and had been looking to purchase one of these Kangol Montys for some time. I can say that this is one of the best quality berets I have ever seen. The wool is so thick that if you put the beret under a faucet it will hold the water as well as a bucket with virtually no seepage. The drawback to this is that it was not easy to form at all. This has been my ongoing favorite hat since the late 90s. I bought a replacement from amazon in 2010 and needed to buy another since I had lost my old one. But when I click the "Buy it again" link on in my order history, the page now says "Women's Monty Beret" It is a bit of a turn-off, but I look at it and there weren't any feminine flairs added. It is still the same materials and design as before but I wish they hadn't relabeled it. Now if a friend asks me about the hat and wants to know where I got it. I can't just tell him where I got it. I'll have to explain about the unnecessary sexism and maybe suffer some unnecessary ribbing. ... show more

I’ve worn many different berets, but none of them ever itches me. This one does. I like the beret, I even ordered another one. I can’t wear it without wearing a tin headscarf underneath—which makes it too hot and uncomfortable most of the time. My head is always shaven—I might add—but like I said, I don’t have this much itching with other hats (especially berets). I think I just found out why. There’s no lining inside the beret at all. They just put their brand stamp there instead of lining the beret. You have the feeling that you’re wearing an authentic product, but I’m afraid they didn’t give much thought into making it more comfortable for users who don’t have hair as cushion to avoid the itching. I’m not much thrilled about the hat now, I’ve gone back to using a far cheaper brand. Won’t ever buy again. ... show more

This is an ok hat but not as nice as my other Kangol hats. The bow on the back is purely decorative although I suspect it used to be a functional drawstring. My hat size is 7 1/8 which is the high side of Medium according to Kangol’s size chart. I usually order a Large for a comfortable fit that is not too tight. My other Kangol hats (Tropic 504, BambooJax, Wool Hawker) in Large size all fit just right. The Monty is very, very tight. if you are a real Large, particularly on the upper side of the range, I would order one size up. This hat is made in The Republic of China (Taiwan) as are the other Kangol hats I have bought in the last several years. ... show more
