  • The adaptability of saddles to various tree sizes and shapes is a key advantage.
The unique mobility and versatility offered by a saddle can enhance the hunting experience, while also presenting certain challenges that require consideration. Below, I have explored the advantages and disadvantages of using a saddle for hunting, providing insight for both new and seasoned hunters. One of the standout advantages of a saddle is the mobility it provides. Unlike traditional tree stands, which can be restrictive in terms of positioning and movement, saddles allow hunters the freedom to adjust their posture and angle dynamically. This enhanced mobility can lead to better shot opportunities, as hunters are able to pivot, lean, and shift their weight to create the ideal angle for taking aim. The ability to adjust quickly to the movement of wildlife is a game-changer and can significantly improve success rates. For those who enjoy venturing deep into the woods to find the perfect hunting spot, the lightweight and compact nature of saddle kits is a considerable advantage. Saddle kits typically weigh significantly less than traditional tree stands and take up minimal space in a pack. This is particularly crucial for long hikes, where every ounce matters. The ease of transport makes it much more feasible to travel to those hard-to-reach areas where many game animals dwell. The adaptability of saddles to various tree sizes and shapes is another key advantage. Through adjustable straps and platforms, saddles can be easily modified to fit different environments, enabling hunters to set up in a wider range of locations. This versatility means that hunters can find suitable trees in less-than-ideal spots, expanding their options when seeking out the perfect vantage point. Now the down side While the benefits of saddle hunting are compelling, it’s important to acknowledge the learning curve associated with using one. Proper setup and use are essential for comfort and safety, which can initially be daunting for new saddle hunters. Without adequate practice practice practice and knowledge, there is a risk of discomfort or even unsafe situations. This steep learning curve may deter some hunters from fully embracing this method. One common complaint among saddle users is discomfort during prolonged use. If a saddle is not properly adjusted, or if a hunter is not accustomed to the leaning position for extended periods, it can lead to a less enjoyable experience. It's crucial for users to take the time to find the right fit and practice sitting in the saddle to ensure greater comfort when it counts. High-quality saddle kits can represent a significant investment compared to traditional tree stands. While the price can be justified by the advantages provided, it can still be a barrier for novice hunters or those on a tight budget. Potential buyers should weigh the long-term benefits against the upfront cost when considering a purchase. Overall, hunting saddles offer a unique blend of mobility, lightweight design, and versatility that many hunters find advantageous. However, the learning curve, potential for discomfort, and initial financial outlay are significant considerations that should not be overlooked. For those willing to invest time in practice and adjustment, the rewards can be substantial, making saddle hunting a thrilling and effective alternative to traditional methods. Ultimately, the decision to switch to a saddle should be based on personal preferences and hunting styles, ensuring a tailored experience that enhances each outing. ... show more

  • cheap hunting saddle to try out saddle hunting before investing more
This hunting saddle is a really competitive way to get into saddle hunting. It does come with most of the gear you need including an ascender which is really desireable, but then, there's a lot of trust needed to hang my life on this gear. The leg straps use a thread through buckle which is a bit of a pain, but for a few times a year, not a deal-breaker. The fixed bridge is actually nice in having one less thing to worry about, though adjustments are nice to have. The detachable 'padding' is not really padding as much as it is insulation/ blanket to keep your backside a little warmer. I like the idea, but haven't decided if I like it or not yet. Overall- not a bad pile of gear for the price. If you want to try out saddle hunting, this could be one way to go. If you're going to use it more, consider investing more. Also- consider what you're willing to pay for ratings/ certifications vs hoping amazon stuff isn't going to fail. ... show more

  • Doing Its Job So Far
We have been getting into using these hunting saddles and were in need of a third one, so I ordered this one. I have included actual photos of my son using it just yesterday because I forgot to get some shots of it. My son is a big guy (220+), and it holds him just fine and with no scary issues of things letting go or tears forming. This is actually a problem we had with one we got not too long ago, it started to tear in one of the seams, so we make sure to check them every time now. This saddle is very comfortable to wear and when you hang there and combine it with a stand platform, there is no problem being up in the tree for a few hours at a time. We haven't noticed anything like blood flow constriction or sore back or legs so that's a definite plus. We also like that this set includes the safety rope which our other ones didn't so we ended up ordering them separately. This set is ready to go right out of the box and as long as you have a platform you should be ready to go. If something comes up or if it fails in some way, I will be sure to come back and update my review. So far, we have no complaints and have no problem recommending it to anyone looking. ... show more

  • Great starter kit
I think this kit is great, especially to get you started out of the box. Compared to other saddles of similar style and price, this saddle holds its own. Stitching seems solid, fit is nice and feels supportive, buckles hold tension well, and print reads well. I was really impressed with the inclusion of all the additional accessories, such as quick release pulley and additional rope. Very comprehensive kit. ... show more

  • Teen uses it
This has a bit of a learning curve. My 240 pound husband refuses to try it, but my 168 pound son enjoys hunting with this. He isn’t afraid of heights and is the one who wanted this. He loves the mobility of this product and the flexibility he has while hunting.

  • Poorly designed saddle
On paper, this saddle kit looks great for a beginner. I do have some experience saddle hunting, so opening this saddle out of the box raised some concerns. First, it has a camo cover that connects with snap buttons, but those buttons get in the way of the belt. Wearing it feels like you are walking around with a diaper and I don't know why they didn't design a lighter weight, less obstructive product. Second, the hardware on the belt seems to have been installed backwards as the thin metal buckles on the wait lines are on the inside as well as random loops. They are also stiches midway rather than being one soild piece. The waist belt itself is fairly thin and the stitching came out of the box with loose ends/threads showing; making craftsmanship a huge concern for safety. I do like that kit includes an ascender, but the tree tethers are much thinner than what I normally use, probably to accommodate the ascender rope diameter limits. Overall, I wouldnt mind the kit if the saddle was designed better and made to a higher standard. Even at the price, I will probably return this due to not being satified with the saddle. ... show more
