This automatic chicken door opener is fantastic! It has given me peace of mind when I can’t get home or outside right away at night to close the existing hinged coop ‘pop’ door myself after it gets dark, and it’s super nice to know if I sleep in once in awhile, the chickens will be let out without me! The opener can have several open and close timers programmed, one for each day if you want, or just open and close at the same time every day. Programming it is not exactly intuitive with the button labels, but is very simple if you read the instructions. You can also turn off the automatic feature and just manually open and close it by pushing a button in the sturdy weatherproof control box case. There is an adjustable sensor that will stop the door if something is blocking it (like a garage door sensor). The sliding door opens/closes so slowly that I can’t imagine any chicken getting caught under it and killed, even if the sensor stopped working. It is NOT a dusk-to-dawn photocell timer, but rather one where you specify the times to open and close when you program it. Because we already had a pop door on the coop leading into the run before getting this, we had to retrofit the smaller auto door to be sure it sealed out predators and blocked the cold, so it took us more time to install. If you don’t have an existing door or if the opening is sized pretty close to what’s needed for this door, installation should not take you long at all. It also can be installed vertically or horizontally, which can help it fit if your space is limited. We have been using it for 2 months now, including through near freezing temperatures and snow, and there haven’t been any issues at all. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. REVIEW UPDATE: After the first week,door failed..... After emailing James with the problem I was having and troubleshooting via his suggestions, he sent me a replacement adapter plug which did the trick! It is once again working like a charm. The customer support response was the quickest I've ever had and the resolution was just as fast. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again! Works like a charm! Installed 3 days ago, and it opens and closes as programmed. Smooth installation, not complicated. I only wish the door were a bit bigger as its a little squeeze for my geese, but they manage. The true test will be whether or not racoons can break it but until then, I'm thoroughly satisfied! ... show more

Received this last week and installed it. Haven't programmed the timer yet but will attempt that in the next couple of weeks. Parts are well packaged and seem of good quality. Installation was straightforward...my suggestion is to build a wooden frame large enough to cover your existing door (I just used a sheet of plywood cut down to size), cut a square opening in the bottom, and mount your opener to this frame. You can do this in the shop and make sure everything is adjusted and working and then just screw the frame to the coop. The actuator seems super strong, and opens/closes slowly. Don't really understand the people who had trouble with chickens being killed even without the sensor. It closes so slowly that unless the poultry was passed out drunk in the doorway, I don't know how it got them. On the "what I'm not crazy about" subject, don't really like the way the door mounts inside the rails. Easy to make work but hard to get exactly right...there always seems to be a little side-to-side play. Won't affect varmints forcing their way in, just bothers me that it moves a little. And getting the travel of the actuator is a little tricky. I bent the pins a couple of times because I screwed it down, tested the travel, and found out I didn't have it right. Not terrible, just takes a little time. All in all, seems pretty good overall. ... show more

I chose this Coop Door for 2 main reasons: 1) I like to strength and durability of the Leadscrew mechanism that opens and closes the door and 2) I like to versatility of the Programmable Controller. Fairly easy to program, with good options for "open" and "close" schedules. The kit includes good quality materials. I would highly recommend this Coop Door to others. Also, I chose to power this with a 12VDC Lithium battery that is charged with a Solar Panel and Solar Controller module. We purchased this JVR automatic chicken coop door in May. We were in need of a dependable automatic door because we were going on a short trip. We originally had bought the popular battery operated automatic door offered on Amazon but had to return it because it only worked intermittently. The JVR door has consistently opened and shut for our hens since day one of installation in May. We went on a week vacation in June and had someone get the eggs and check on the chickens. We were very pleased that the door did its job. We feel this is because the electric worm gear used in the JVR door is a much superior design in comparison to the plastic gear of the battery operated coop doors that are sold. The weatherproof case proved to do the job of protecting the the timer mechanism from getting wet and even though we have had a few power outages from storms it keep the set open and close times. The instructions for assembly and installation were clear and concise. The only negative is it took a few attempts to set the timer for open and shut times after reading the instructions. I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the struggle I had with setting the open and shut time. But I am very pleased that it has worked everyday since installation so I will give it 4 stars. ... show more
