  • Cosmo Jr Track 2 SE
Color: Black
The packaging was functional and well designed making the unboxing process similar to opening a small gift box. Setup instructions were detailed but easy to follow. The vendor recommends that the Watch is fully charged using the included usb cable before beginning the setup. There was no included plug/cube with the cable however an existing plug/cube from another device worked fine with the included cable. To complete setup process parents will need an iOS or Android smartphone to download the “COSMO: Mission Control” app. Parents will also need to purchase cellular service to take full advantage of the the tracking and calling features. The options include 6 months or 12 months for for a slight discount. Either option will be billed by monthly charges to a credit card that will continue until the end of the contract term. I did not see an option to add the watch to an existing cellular service from a national service provider like Verizon or T-Mobile. Additionally, I did not see any information regarding whether the provided cellular service would work internationally allowing this device to make calls while traveling outside of the country. The provided cellular service worked well for tracking and calls from/to the Watch were clear on both ends. The watch operating system has a few basic apps in addition to the phone including a calculator, step counter, video recorder, and traditional camera. All of the apps were easy to use and intuitive. My daughter quickly figured them out. I did not see an option to add additional apps. Tracking the location of the watch is simple using the functionality in the “COSMO: Mission Control” app that was installed on your smartphone during the setup. The app can also be used to add new contacts that can be called from the phone app. Finally the app can be used to setup School mode. School mode ensures that children cannot use the non emergency functionality of the watch while in school and may be required by your child’s school. Watches may still be tracked while in school mode. Overall, this device is well designed and functional and provides peace of mind while my daughter is playing with friends in the neighborhood or gets separated from us while away from home. I would recommend it to other parents who’s children are not quite ready for the responsibility of a cellphone. ... show more

  • I really wanted to like it but I can't recommend it.
Color: Pink
Pros: - Easy to use and set up. - No app store, no social media, no "bloatware" preloaded apps, no internet browser. - The mission control app for parents is cool, I like that it sends you notifications when the battery is low or when it's outside of a "safe zone". Lots of control over contacts and other settings. - GPS is pretty accurate. Cons: - The battery life is just not good, especially considering the OS doesn't appear to be very demanding and there are only a handful of preloaded apps. After initially receiving it I let it charge until full. It died within a day, but that's to be expected after the first charge with some devices. Sometimes batteries need to calibrate a bit after first-time use. I then left it on the charger overnight. My daughter took it off and played with it a bit before school the next morning, then left it on the kitchen table (I don't let her bring it to school, I don't want to have it be a distraction or run the risk if it getting taken away. I wanted her to have it so I can call/text her when she spends the night at one of her grandparent's houses, when she goes to her mom's in another state during school breaks, and so she can call her family whenever she wants. Maybe even let her go to the park across the street by herself as she gets a little older). I got a push notification through the mission control app that it needed to be charged soon around early afternoon. By the time I got home from work it was dead again. This has been the norm since. - My daughter was so excited to be able to call her family. But it kept dropping calls, especially outgoing calls for some reason. There is an optimized call feature that lets you use VoIP via your WiFi network but you have to get a brand new phone number to do this. It was annoying to have to reach out to her mom/grandparents/aunts/uncles and explain to them that she has a new phone number and that they should call that one moving forward. - Unlimited texting is kinda false advertising. The watch only lets the user text people who are designated as a "guardian" in their contacts, and guardians are those who have the ability to change all the security settings in the mission control app. And those guardians can only text the user of the watch through the mission control app itself. Which means it's not really texting via SMS, it's messaging via data. So essentially my daughter can only "text" her mom and myself, since I don't want to give everyone in my family guardian status. - As far as I can tell, there's no way to connect earbuds or headphones to the watch, so every phone conversation is a speaker phone conversation. - The charging cable is some kind of proprietary magnetic connection that easily slips off and doesn't feel secure when connected. Really wish it would have just been standard micro usb or usb-c. - Unless I'm just dumb and don't see it, there's no way to save a WiFi network either in the watch settings or in the mission control app. So every time after I charge it up and turn it on, before giving it to my daughter I have to reconnect it to the WiFi. Which feeds directly into the optimized call issue. If I forget to reconnect it to the WiFi the calls will drop. Overall I really wanted to like this. The concept was neat and I was sold on the whole "no browser, no app store, no social media, only contacts you allow" feature. I thought this would be a nice way to ease my 7 year old daughter into tech, especially since I see so many kids (some even younger than her) glued to their smart phones, smart watches, and tablets these days. I don't want my daughter to be behind the times and out of the loop compared to her peers but I definitely don't want her turning into a tech zombie or potentially being exposed to something. But as you can see the cons just far outweigh the pros. I will probably just end up researching something else or maybe get her a "dumb" flip phone or something. If they come out with a new version that addresses the issues listed above, I may give it another chance if I haven't already found something that works better. But ultimately I'm disappointed with the product in its current state. ... show more

  • Basic functionality delivers peace of mind
Color: Blue
This no frills watch gives my daughter the freedom to roam a little bit while giving me the peace of mind to allow her to do so. If she gets lost, I can track down where she is within a reasonable margin or error. I control who she can talk and send texts to. Things I wish it did better: there is a noticeable echo/delay every time the caller speaks so the caller has to wait for the echo to finish before going back to the conversation. It’s a little annoying but not a deal breaker. Also, texts have to go through the app, which is something I didn’t know before purchasing. I guess that’s how they can control who can send texts. Again, this is not a deal breaker, but it is something I wish I would have known beforehand. Finally, the battery life is terrible. The watch has to be charged nightly and sometimes doesn’t make it through the whole day. As long as you remember to charge every night, it’s fine. All in all, the watch does what I need it to do. Would recommend, but these are things I wish I knew before purchasing. ... show more
