Description

John Boos products are designed to meet the demanding expectations of commercial kitchens, and exceed the highest level of quality and food safety standards. Each board and block is made from sustainably harvested North American hardwoods, and offers a commercial grade cutting surface that protects the sharp edge on fine cutlery. Often imitated, John Boos and Co. is internationally known for its expertise in crafting American hardwoods into products of beauty, durability and function. Simple board care can ensure this heirloom, handcrafted board is a favorite in your kitchen for years to come. Every John Boos Board and Block comes with a food safe natural oil finish that helps protect the wood during transit. Once a month, apply an even coat of NSF Approved John Boos Mystery Oil (sold separately), and allow it to soak in overnight. Repeat this process more often when the board is brand new and โ€œthirsty,โ€ or if you live in a dry, arid climate. John Boos recommends applying John Boos Board Cream (also sold separately) to seal the top of the wood surface after applying the Mystery Oil. A few quick minutes of regular oil application will ensure your new board is properly seasoned, and ready for work! After use, wash board with warm, soapy water (all wooden cutting boards are not dishwasher safe and should not be soaked in water). Since 1887, every genuine John Boos cutting board and butcher block has been proudly made in Effingham, Illinois by skilled craftspeople using time honored techniques. Today, USA made John Boos cutting boards and butcher blocks are used and loved in commercial and home kitchens worldwide.

  • Beautiful and highly functional small board - ideal for couples or small batch processing. Easy to handle.
Size: 8"x 12" x 1 Inch with Juice Groove Style: Cutting Board
I bought this board back in 2013 along with the 18" board and have been using it one a near-daily basis ever since. This is my favorite of the two and gets more use because it's small and easy to move around. We have an empty nest so I'm usually making small batches of food so I don't often need more real estate for prep work. Often, I'll move it by the stove so that I can do my knife work there by the pans that I'm cooking with. There's a trench around the edge to catch stray juices. I find it handy as a holding area for round items or to sequester the odd bits like peelings, stems, or ends that I'm leaving out of my recipe. It's small, lightweight , fits almost anyplace and does a great job if you're processing a small amounts. For the lack of anything else, it also make a great cheese board. Boards like this will last a long time if you take care of them regularly. I was smart and bought a board cream and oil at the same time I bought my boards so that I'd always have the materials on hand to treat them. I did the simple thing and bought the Boos branded stuff, which has done a great job keeping my boards conditioned. I like: John Boos Butcher Block Board Cream, 5 ounce Tube John Boos MYS32-6 Mystery Butcher Block Oil, 32 ounces Be sure to read and follow the directions. ... show more

  • and took my board with my along with my favorite knife and other items
Size: 8"x 12" x 1 Inch with Juice Groove Style: Cutting Board
A cut above. This board is my second John Boos. My older one is much larger, but it doesn't have the juice groove this one has. I wanted something more portable and a board that could catch the meat juices. The other side is used for veggie prep. I recently went on a little trip to house sit for some friends, and took my board with my along with my favorite knife and other items. It's frustrating trying to cook in someone else's kitchen when you don't have your go-to tools on hand. My John Boos made chopping easy and fun. The meat prep was also nice as the juices flowed right into the groove. Clean up was a snap because of it's smaller size. I had just recently bought a different cutting board made of A wood, but I didn't care for it at all. It bounced all over the counter when I chopped on it. Once I got my 12"x8"x1" cutting board, I could really tell the difference. It has stayed put every time I use it. I am VERY happy with this board and would highly recommend it to those who are looking for a smaller chopping board that is solid all the way around. ... show more

  • Broke within a week in dish washer
Size: 8"x 12" x 1 Inch with Juice Groove Style: Cutting Board
Once it was cleansed in dishwasher, it broke into piece as small pieces glued together and glue is not strong, itโ€™s not worth of ten dollars but bought for forty five dollars.

  • Fun little cutting board
Size: 8"x 12" x 1 Inch with Juice Groove Style: Cutting Board
I got the idea on the Travel channel, watching a show about various steak houses. One restaurant in particular served steaks to everyone with a Boos board. It looks impressive. Since they cost about $20 each (very reasonable in my opinion) I purchased 4, copying the steak house. I slice the meat and eat it off the board just as I would using a plate. This keeps my new steak knives sharp too. The boards have a nice deep groove for collecting juice. The board is small - a big Tbone or Tri-tip doesn't quite fit. The quality of the wood is not the same as a MUCH higher priced and larger Boos block I own - hence 4 stars. ... show more

  • Lightweight, good size for modest cutting needs.
Size: 8"x 12" x 1 Inch with Juice Groove Style: Cutting Board
I have a large cutting board excellent for cutting meat or vegetables, but it's heavy and larger than I need for most tasks. This one is a great supplement to my collection.

  • Flip it over!
Size: 8"x 12" x 1 Inch with Juice Groove Style: Cutting Board
I should have gotten out my yardstick before ordering this. The "up" side, with the deep groove around the edge, has a cutting surface that's so ridiculously small that it's not very useful -- and I'm only cooking for the two of us! But flip that sucker over, and it's a thing of beauty and joy forever! I thought I'd never use it, but amazingly, it's my go-to board most of the time! So don't buy it for the groove, buy it for the back, and you'll be pleased! ... show more
