  • Cute little headphones that do what they say...
Style: Non-Folding Color: Purple Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
So, let me begin by saying that my youngest daughter, who's almost 5, loves them. She uses them with her Galaxy Nexus 7 to listen to audio books, play memory games, watch Netflix, and yes, play Angry Birds. They work well with my wife's Kindle Fire, and have also proved compatible with our Galaxy SII phones. The adjustable headband allowed me to wear these as I would other headphones -- giving me the opportunity to put these through the same series of tests I use for all my headphones. I will say, they do get better sounding after their burn-in period. However, even after the initial burn-in, the overall sound quality is just ok. The highs are a bit tinny sounding - not quite shrill or overly harsh - just lacking some warmth and fullness. The mids can get a bit muddy, depending on the content. Voices are generally clear, though lacking in the timbre that you get from higher quality drivers. The lows are a little weak -- which, truthfully, is to be expected for headphones at this price point. They do okay for my daughter, and will probably get us through until she's a little older and can be responsible for a set of cans with better drivers. The volume limiting is effective, and the integrated volume knob on the right earpiece was well thought out. It could use a little more friction in the turning mechanism, however....it's not hard to bump the right earpiece and cause the volume to quickly increase or decrease. The build quality is pretty good. The headband and adjustment mechanism seems pretty sturdy. Only time will tell how truly durable it is. The cord is reasonably thick and does not tangle easily. I feel confident in stating that it should hold up pretty well to the abuses 4 to 7 year-olds can put it through. The ear pads are well padded, but can be a bit finicky about staying on. They've popped off a few times, and while they're not hard to put back on, it would be nice to see future revisions provide a better attachment mechanism to keep them where they belong. The packaging was actually a bit of a surprise. It was very similar to Amazon's frustration free packaging. Everything was (as far as I can recall) made from recycled materials. That was actually nice to see. My real complaint here is that there was NO technical information provided for these headphones. None on Amazon, none on the JLab website, and none in the actual product packaging. I had to email JLab to get the specs, and it took them several days to respond. So, for those of you that are interested, according to JLab, these are the specs for the JLab JBuddies headphones: Style - On ear headphones Driver Size - 30mm driver. Impedance - 32OHm Volume - <90dB volume THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) -- "As for the THD, this is not information I have readily available. From what I have researched, I believe it is <1% for the THD." The bit about the THD not being readily available was a bit surprising. Also, you'll notice that there's no mention of frequency response. It's a bit hard to compare headphones, even on a cursory level, if you cannot even evaluate the impedance, driver size, frequency response and THD. This is an area where JLab really needs to improve their product's technical specification visibility. I took the chance ordering because I know Amazon has excellent customer service and return policies, so the risk was minimal. All in all - they aren't bad little headphones. On sale, they are a reasonable deal. At full price, I think the value proposition is diminished. There are other on-ear headphones (albeit without the volume limiting) at the full-price price point that would probably have better sound, larger drivers, similar impedance, and more accurate sound reproduction. I gave them 4 stars because my daughter loves them, the volume limiting is effective, the sound isn't horrible, the sale price was reasonable, and the build quality and packaging were good. I deducted 1 star because the sound could be better and because the lack of technical specification for these seems a deliberate choice, since other JLab products include this information. That may not be an accurate accounting, but that is my perception. If you provide that information on all your other product offerings, why should this one be different? ... show more

  • Awesome buy -- saved me from having to listen to Barney for three hours!
Style: Non-Folding Color: Pink Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
After I picked out the Sylvania SDVD7027 7-Inch Portable DVD Player in preparation for a muIti-city flight with my two-year old, I realized I wasn't sure if other parents just turn the volume down low for the toddler set or if they buy them headphones. Surely those free little ear buds would not be tolerated by sensitive ears and would likely be a choking hazard anyway. When I realized most of the hand-me-down kids' DVDs we have star Barney the purple dinosaur, I decided that I would not survive the flight if I had to listen to "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family..." for three hours. I wasn't sure that my two-year-old would be on board with wearing any kind of headphones, but I figured maybe if they were pink and had stickers there would at least be a shot. She loves them! She wore them for days before our plane trip. She wore them on the plane without a complaint. She wears them around the house on a regular basis. She puts them in and takes them out of their little pink bag. I worried because she has a tiny head but they still fit her well. She has some room to grow but these are definitely toddler-sized and would be uncomfortable on a bigger child or adult. I imagine they would fit her through age 5 or 6, if they last that long. I don't know how long they will hold up, but she is definitely not gentle with them (typical toddler) and they still look and function perfectly, four months after purchase. No, this is not high fidelity sound and if you listened to them you would probably think they were a little quiet and not the highest quality, but they are by no means awful. And I never have to listen to Barney and his friends -- my daughter knows that if she wants to watch the purple dinosaur, it has to be on her own "computer," with her headphones on! Awesome buy, would definitely purchase again! ... show more

  • Awesome headphones for my 4 year old
Style: Non-Folding Color: Blue Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
My son, who will be four in a month, has been using these headphones for about week. He uses them with his Kindle Fire and portable dvd player. They are the perfect size for him, although I can't imagine kids too much older using them because they are the exact size of my son's ears right now. I feel like children over eight or even six would need a larger pair. They do adjust quite a bit but the ear pad is small like for toddlers and young children. I love that the volume doesn't go too loud even when he cranks up all the way up. At its loudest, I feel like it is a bit much for him but not where I am worried about his ears being damaged. He doesn't use them at full volume but it is nice to know that if he did, his ears wouldn't be harmed. They are nice and lightweight and seem to be pretty sturdy. My little one throws these things around a bit rougher than I would like and they haven't shown any damage yet. I am a bit worried reading other reviews saying the audio went out after a few months. I hope they last, but for only $15 if they last at least 8 months with my kid they are worth it lol. They are comfy with the thick padding and he loves that he picked which sticker to place on the side. We love the control knob on the side that is easy to use for him. Its easier to adjust the volume that way than on the kindle fire that only has on screen volume controls. The blue also matches his kindle fire case although he wishes he had green. Great buy for such a low price (I believe I got it on sale as a post cyber Monday overstock type sale). Great sound quality too! ... show more
