  • Exactly what I was looking for - economical and functional
I took up amateur birding this year, wasn't quite sure where to start and still figuring things out. I already had a Nikon D5500 DSLR, so figured I'd just start with a lower cost lens that had a higher zoom range. To be transparent, I didn't compare quality or features with any other lenses, I was simply looking for a better zoom lens than my 8mm-50mm at a low entry price that would help me actually identify birds in the wild. I'm about 2 weeks in, and this has served the exact purpose I'd hoped. I'm getting better in manual mode (no auto focus, no aperture mode, etc) but my pictures are getting better, too. I've attached 2 pictures, both Red-bellied Woodpeckers...the first shows the very first time I used the lens (about 10 days ago?) and the second was just today. I'm getting better at identifying birds, which was my main focus. 5* for being a perfect fit for my need. ... show more

  • Nice lens but not for Nikon D3500
I saw one review that said it was compatible with the Nikon D3500. Unless there's a style that's older/newer or something; this does not work with that camera. My Nikon D3500 has sensors on the camera that match up to the sensors on the lens and this lens does not have those sensors. The person that said it worked with theirs said they had to reattach multiple times and it finally recognized it. For one thing, I have no interest in having to do this type of thing. Most likely, I'd throw the thing in frustration if this had to be done every time! Like I said, no sensors. I can't even imagine how they got it to work. It looks like a great lens otherwise. I rated east to use and value for money 4 stars but just not for my camera model. :-( ... show more

  • Great for the price
So if you go into this lens realistically then you will be VERY happy. This is NOT a $2k lens, so don't expect that quality with it. +zoom clarity is great -+with steady hands you don't really need a tripod, even at full zoom. But it is easy to lose sight of targets. -+locking ring will keep the lens from turning while adjusting focus but doesn't fully keep it from zooming in and out so be careful not to pull and push too much while focusing. -you MUST lock the locking ring before adjusting focus unless you have huge hands that can hold the middle while adjusting with your fingers. -not heavy but after an hour or two it does start to hurt the wrist, so recomend grabbing a good wrist brace if you're gonna use it a lot. +materials are sturdy. Doesn't feel like I'm gonna break it easily. -it does not come with a back cap to fit the adapter. So you either have to remove the adapter every time, buy a cap the right size, or (like me) just cover it with a microfiber cloth before putting it back in its bag. -+ No auto focus but that's said in the description so shouldn't be surprised. It is GREAT for LEARNING manual controls. The info on settings in the product description were exactly right, though I had to do a little research on my camera to learn how to adjust some settings to get it to work just right. Over all, despite some of its negatives, I went into this expecting such things, so for its price I'm genuinely very happy with this lens. And will continue to use it with all my capture photography. ... show more

  • It is ok …
Lent is good, but not for what I need it for.

  • Know what you're buying
I highly recommend this lens to all photo enthusiast but especially wildlife photographers. While out shooting with my Nikor 200-500 VR lens( $1500 ) I made friends with a fellow hobbiest, she showed me this lens and some of her shots. I decided it was worth trying out because it allows me to get closer to the birds I shoot most often. It has no vibration correction, no auto focus, no aperture adjustment; all features I've come to rely upon with my Nikor but after only a few days I was taking great shots. The two photos I've uploaded reveal the quality of the Nikor lens but for the price I'm so happy to have this Jinto in my arsenal ... show more
