  • Love it
Completely manual, not for person that wants auto focus. Love it, works great, great price.

  • Don’t pass this up - hear me out!!
I am a complete beginner using outdated equipment, and this lens is worth every penny. For context, I was gifted an 18 year old Canon XTI camera with a 75-300mm lens one week ago. I'm literally still trying to figure out the manual settings with that autofocus lens. I quickly realized I needed a lens with more zoom if I wanted to get good close ups of birds… but I also didn't want to spend the money on one. I figured I'd take a chance on this, and worst case I'd be out less than $100. The lens was delivered at 6pm tonight, so I had roughly 1.5 hours to assemble and figure out how to use it if I wanted to get any pictures this evening. The lens is super light weight and very straightforward to assemble/use. It would definitely do better with more daylight, but these images at dusk came out fantastic! I am so pleased with this purchase and eager to get better using this lens! ... show more

  • This is a great quality, but does not have auto focus
I gave it a 4 overall but Pros: 5 for value, 5 for quality. it amazed me at how sharp the photos came out. Cons: I gave it a 1 because there is no stability or auto-focus on those feature-stars which would add probably at least 50-100 bucks to the price. but if you have a good tripod and a sharp eye then you'll be pleased. ... show more

  • Really cool!
I was skeptical a out this product. But I took a chance after watching some reviews on youtube. First….It came very quickly. Second….It is built very well. It feels solid, its heavy and metal. The lenses are really good quality glass. It does not feel or look cheap. Third…It fit my Canon EOS Rebel T7 perfectly. It is easy to use. The focus is excellent. I recommend getting a tripod or a monopod for stabilization. I love this thing. The shots of the birds I took were about 150+ yards away with no tripod. (Did not arrive yet haha) still pretty clear and amazing close up shots. The moon shots were taken using my roof rack as a stabilizer hah. One at night and one in the morning as the sun was rising. Get this lens! It will take your photos to the next level!!!! ... show more

  • Good quality, great price
This is a good investment for a starting out photographer like myself. Great for taking pictures of the moon and the sun(just add a solar filter to it). Also bought the 2x converter to go with it. Just because I wanted to get a better close up shots.

  • Decent, but...
For the price it's a great lens, especially if you know what you're doing with all the settings. Once I got things in focus, the obligatory pictures of the moon came out pretty good (image attached is on full auto with manual focus). That being said, I'm very disappointed in the tripod mount. I had set everything up, and had the lens mounted on the tripod. It was nicely balanced with the camera at that point. However, when I used the tripod arm to adjust the camera to point up higher to actually get the moon the weight from the camera caused the tripod mount to break. I'm grateful that I was able to catch the camera. With the busted mount, the lens is now fairly useless outside of a "throw it in the trunk for random art shots on a road trip" kind of lens. ... show more

  • Excellent value
This is a manual lens, which you should think of more as a telescope that happens to attach to your camera: -It does not have a shutter. -It does not have an automatic aperature. The aperature is a function of its shape and size, which is 8 at 420mm and 16 at 800mm, and varies in between. You need to set your camera to manual mode, then control the shutter speed (which is a digital shutter) and the ISO number (the sensitivity of the "film"). You can use the metering of the camera to find the correct exposure setting, which usually shows numbers going from -3 to +3, with zero being the nominal setting. If you are looking for a fully automatic lens, please go elsewhere and bring a lot of cash. I will be using it to capture the upcoming eclipse, so for those unfamiliar with FoV, cropped-sensor, etc. look at the photos for size reference. These were taken with Canon T7i at 700, 800mm, and 600mm respectively (I am unable to control the order of the photos). Also, the lens was covered with a Celestron Universal Eclipse filter, where the mounting-straps got in the way of taking 420mm photos, which is fine for my purposes. ... show more

  • Did not work period, could not even get a single non blurry shot despite trying all settings
I really wanted to like this lens since it felt like value for money, but not sure what was I thinking seeing all the nice pictures posted by others in the reviews since I could not take even 1 decent shot in about 100 tries. And yes I read about all the manual focussing limitations and different settings I needed to change for ISO and Shutter Speed. I did try it against the moon, against other landscape items in full bright sunlight, with and without tripods, but the lens would just not focus into other than a blur (and I am not even talking about when I clicking the shutter)... the lens focus from the view finder itself was always blurry aka out of focus, despite trying to focus several times with different focal lengths (yes I tried from 420mm all the way to the 800 mm). I also tried with two DSLRs that I have Canon Rebel XSI and T5. May be it works with more high end and newer models... too bad this is going back. ... show more
