I can not sit on the ground and dig holes. This allows me me stand and dig. We have clay soil and this tool goes right thru the clay. You can also trench with it to loosen the dirt enabling you to pull weeds a fast pace. I used it to plant Canna bulbs and elephant ears. Did great!

This auger drill seems to be holding up well. However, you need to take into account the type of hand drill you will be using for this larger auger drill. My 18v drill seems to be working well with proper settings. Also, the type of soil you will be drilling into will play a big factor as to how well it works. I only wish they made this drill auger longer then 12", you still need to bend over or kneel to get the right postion for a straight vertical hole. It worked well for what we were doing which was planning small bulbs. I don’t like that it is a point at the end. I think it should have some auger wings at the end like most big augurs do.

I bought this auger to use for a homeowners association workday to plant over 400 liriope spicata plants, and it did the job very well. I had four electric drills and chargers and rotated them throughout the day. At the end of the project--except for having lost its luster (and some paint)--the auger showed no damage or even wear to the blades. The soil varied from soft to very hard and rocky, and though the latter took more effort and time, it eventually yielded to the auger. Not heavy duty. First tried a socket. Rounded the shaft. Then put on 18v drill and it work . Just had to do up and down motion. Better than shovel or post hole digger.
