Description

Innovating Science stain kit is used to determine if bacteria are Gram- positive or Gram-negative, and contains crystal violet for staining. The kit has an instructions and material safety data sheet (MSDS) packet for product information and handling procedures, and is suitable for age 13 and older with adult supervision. The kit meets the requirements for Department of Transportation (DOT) small quantity exemption 173.4, and conforms to 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 173.4 for domestic highway or rail transport only.Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. This is exactly what you need to do the Gram's Stain for looking at bacteria under a microscope. The directions are straightforward. The bacteria that takes on the violet stain is called Gram-Positive. The cell wall retains the stain color. You wash the slide (or film) with the included alcohol and this removes the excess violet. Used this to identify lactic acid bacteria in food production setting. The ethanol bottles came with a pinkish hue. This has never happened on previous kits I have received (have ordered many over the years). I usually flood with everclear anyway so it wasnt much of an issue to toss them.     • Great Kit - worked everytime
This kit was fantastic! Gram staining with ease. Each stain session went well and the results were clear! If I could change anything about this kit I would include more Ethanol just because of how much you use compared to the other chemicals. But the kit was enough to get through 20 stains with out issue with a ton of chemicals left over. Pro: Good Instructions Good quality chemicals Every stain went very well! This worked great for staining epithelial cells. Instructions were easy to follow and no part of the process was difficult. Photos were taken using both a 40x objective and the 100x oil immersion objective. Unstained slide is for comparison. If you're not draining your slide onto a stainless steel surface, you might have some lasting psychedelic colors on your sink. I drained the stain straight into a trash can to avoid making a mess, and used alcohol to lift any stains on my counter. ... show more

Instructions were really easy to follow. Results were fantastic. I was very pleased with the overall results. I have included an image of my first stain using this kit. Case of bacterial vaginosis. What you are looking at are vaginal epithelial cells and bacteria.
