The description is not true. This piping is not black iron pipe, it is painted black thin gauge steel. It is not very easy to assemble as it takes lots of time to get the T's to line up correctly. If they are not screwed all the way down, it will be loose and will not be straight when fully assembled. The wall anchors are garbage. Go to your local home improvement store and get heavy duty ones. That being said when I spent about an hour working to get everything lined up and tight it looked great and is sturdy. This kit is also about 65% cheaper than actual iron piping from Lowe's and Home Depot. If you are wanting to just do a couple shelves, then I'd suggest going with actual iron pipe but for several this is a great option. ... show more

Easy to put together and understand. Instead of using all the anchor bolts, I bought 2x4 and installed them according to the with of the shelf. I purchased 2 of them and added two 8' long pine boards from Lowe's in addition to the individual 2' shelf tops with overlap 3" on each side.

I love these shelves places right next to my tv stand. They are very sturdy and nice looking. My one warning is make sure you have help to set this up it is a bit difficult to assemble and put up but once you do it is worth it!

    • Great product- A couple of things to consider before you start the project…

Great, sturdy shelf system but there are some things to consider before you start screwing things together and affixing to the wall. 1.) The shorter pieces of pipe are for vertical and the longer pipes are for the shelves. 2.) Plan on how you want to affix the shelves, there are only enough pipe clamps to clamp in the middle of the shelf. If you want to install a clamp on the front and back of the shelf like we did, you will need more pipe clamps and the are nearly impossible to find in black. 3.) The drywall anchors do not have lips to prevent them from pushing into the wall. I would recommend not using the ones that come with the set for that reason, otherwise you will be screwing into the drywall and the screw and anchor will go into the wall, leaving you with a bunch of loose screws with no support, or you will have to take the whole bracket off and re-do with a different anchor. There are enough screws and anchors to make this sturdy with 1/2 installed properly, but this will make a big difference. Overall I will buy again and thing they look great! Pine shelves are a great wood to use and aren’t too expensive, but are hard and look great natural or with a Danish oil finish. ... show more
