This is a terrible item. Using the water bottles is messy. Put of 18 eggs only 2 survived.

    • Issues with design and durability
I have many years of experience using a larger styrofoam incubator for quail eggs. I purchased this incubator because I wanted one that took up less space. I have had it for less than a year. I was able to get about a 70% hatch rate with 2 incubations. However, there are several problems noted with this design. - the teeth of the turner plate are exposed to the inside of the incubator and little quail feet and heads could easily get mangled in these - when you go to remove the chicks there is nothing to keep them from falling off the tray and you risk pinching them between the top and tray rushing to put the top back on - larger quail eggs (jumbo brown eggs) do not turn and the only row that does turn successfully for regular sized eggs is the outside ring - I attempted a third incubation and when I plugged it in the fan sounded like it was ready to break. I took it apart to see if something was hindering the fan and couldn’t find anything. I don’t want to risk it failing mid-incubation, so it’s basically a throw away now. - you must use a Coke bottle for the humidity setup to work properly and it is an absolute mess to cleanup if there is any water left in the bottles after incubation is complete. I’m giving it 2 stars because I did successfully hatch about 20 birds using it, but I would not recommend it. I can’t image hatching chickens in it as the headspace is barely adequate for quail. ... show more

    • Small incubator but got the job done
The lid is not tall enough for the chicks’ comfort and has a pretty serious design flaw. The “defuser” has saw-shaped teeth and we seriously had chicks that got their head caught between the teeth. One happened while we were outside. I am thankful we caught it in time. We were able to successfully hatch nine baby chicks. ... show more

    • Instructions are poor.
Haven’t put eggs in yet because the temp gauge has never changed since it was plugged in. Not wasting eggs if I can’t tell what the temp is.

9 out of 14. 3 which were not fertilized. So technically 9 of 11 hatched and I even forgot to start the turner for the first 5 days. If you don't want a expensive incubator this worked great. Temp and humidity were actually very accurate. My hygrometer is NIST calibrated yearly and it was spit on.
