  • Great photos of unusual artefacts
This author produced 3 massive books on the Imperial German uniforms and equipment. There are already other books covering this area from other authors. These photo-illustrated books of old artefacts combined with wartime photos are very attractive. The coverage here is not fully comprehensive. There are omissions of specific equipment but as I have these in my other books, this is not a problem. What I liked though, is the fact that other unexpected items are covered here, thus making this book an indispensable and complementary volume to my other books. ... show more

  • Mixed bag in this volume
While a welcome source for Imperial German Army equipment and excellent color pictures. I found some glaring omissions. In the weapons chapter there is not a single image of the Maxim MG08/15 machinegun, the Kar98b, Gew 88 rifle, Mauser Broomhandle pistol, MP18. All get a Little blurb. I also expected More on the Standard Arm the Gew98 like makers marks, etc. For the machineguns 1 period and 1 modern picture of the Maxim MG08. Considering the author gave 20 pages to every variation of Gas Mask this seems very odd, especially when one considers the enormous role the Maxim machinegun played in the Imperial German Army. Overall except for the dissappointing weapons chapter I found it good value for Money on the other items. A good mix of period and current images ... show more
