  • I need to read the ingredient list before I can fairly rate this mascara. Font is too small!
Just because a beauty product is “Vegan and Cruelty Free” does not make it safe to use around your eyes. The latest trend in “mineral” makeup is to use silica. If I go to the beach and complain about the gritty texture of the sand, it is because I am walking on broken down quartz/silica. When you read “silica” on an ingredient list, think sand. Silica is not water soluble and is not something I want around my eyes. Neither are two common substances in “lash extending” mascaras: fiberglass and beeswax. I made an expected trip to the ER to learn that lesson. I had lacerated my cornea with a piece of mascara that got into my eye. I am now very careful about what brands of mascara I use. Since I cannot read the ingredient list, I am not willing to wear this mascara. I gave it a neutral rating of 3-stars. It may be a great mascara, or it may be an awful one. I cannot tell because the ingredient list is printed so tiny it cannot be read. I even tried taking a picture of it to read on the computer. Blown up the text is just a fuzzy mess. Disappointing. ... show more

  • Doesn’t add so much volume
This mascara comes in a very simple packaging and comparing the quality of the mascara to the price, I think it’s kind of pricey. The wand is pointy and thin and it is in color black. It’s pretty pigmented and easy to apply. It adds some length to your lashes and separate them very wall but it doesn’t have so much impact on adding volume to your lashes so it’s a good option for every day use if you want to have natural look lashes. It’s not waterproof so it’s really easy to remove which I absolutely like about it. ... show more

  • This works well to add definition and a bit of volume yet you can remove it easily.
I have used this a couple of days in a row. It is lovely on my eyes which have an excellent shape, but I have faint lashes, and they have to compete too much with dark circles. I need to find a better way to establish a look. Firstly I start early in the morning when I am puffy, which has always been difficult. Secondly, I need makeup that looks youthful. The smeary and shadowy makeup items I have been using are making me look old as soon as they start melting into my eyelids. A good mascara that has pigment and comes into sharper focus is what I need. This mascara is excellent in that regard. However, we aren't overwhelmed with clumps or crunchy texture either! I am happy to use this exclusively right now. I was able to get the look to last for at least 5 hours today. The puffiness that relaxes toward the end of the day makes it difficult for me to get a long-lasting makeup application. I must avoid liners and makeup that will sink into wrinkles or smudge. Lashes are a perfect way to start. I can apply more to the (wet) inner lash area (it has a name, but I can't place it). I do this with dark mascaras as well as dark pencil liners. Altogether with a distinctive shadow, I can have a less-costumey look. I prefer light shimmers, and if I put a shade on my creases, I do it in a way that doesn't complicate my quite deep-set eyes; at my age, that is not desirable. At many ages and with some age issues, I love to say this is my choice right now. It is so easy to remove and is not clumpy in the first place. I rub off under my eyes, but that also happens more with eyeliners and shadows. This item is worth the money! Enjoy! ... show more

  • Think it’s SUPPOSED to be a tubing mascara but NOT a good one! It flakes big time!
This comes in an outer product box. It says it’s 100% vegan and cruelty free. It says that both bottle and cal are made from “light-coloured mono-materials which make them easy to recycle.” I was interested in this because it looked like it had a nice thin applicator, and it said that the formula “rinses away effortlessly with only lukewarm water.” It also talked about how it “wraps each lash in a weightless coat of caring ingredients.” That sounds exactly like a tubing mascara to me, but it didn’t specifically state it was one. When a mascara rinses away with only water it’s USUALLY a tubing mascara. I say “usually” because sometimes brands say it rinses away with just water (making it sound like a tubing mascara) but then it won’t actually be a tubing mascara. It’ll run and smear, giving raccoon eyes, when water is applied. A true tubing mascara does NOT do that. You’ll simply see little tubes coming off and that’s it (they might look like spider legs or clumps or even lashes - some people have thought they were losing lashes and stopped using the mascara, but really it was just a tubing mascara). Now tubing mascaras have become more prevalent and popular, so more people know what they are and their benefits so being a tubing mascara is a great selling point. Because of that, there’s a lot more brands stating specifically if a mascara is a tubing mascara but there’s still some that don’t and just say it washes off with water. But, the other end is also true - there’s brands that say it washes off with water when it’s not really a tubing mascara (they don’t specifically say it’s a tubing mascara so technically they’re not lying, but I’m sure they know people are going to think it’s a tubing mascara when they see it says it’ll wash off with just water). So, it’s important to know how to spot a true tubing mascara whether the brand says it’s one or not to know for sure! Traditional mascaras use oils or waxes, whereas tubing mascaras are made up of a formula of polymers that wrap around each individual lash with a ‘tube’ that doesn’t budge. (And remember, the product info for this mascara spoke about wrapping each individual lash). Traditional mascara paints layers of pigment onto lashes, which can fall off throughout the day, creating that flaking we all hate so much! With tubing mascaras, the tube each individual lash is coated with sets in place once it dries and doesn’t budge, so you don’t need to worry about flaking! Traditional mascaras are broken down by natural oils in our skin, leading to smudging throughout the day. However, smudging isn’t an issue with tubing mascaras because the polymers are a lot more stable and harder for the face’s oils to break down, so they dry quickly and stay securely in place leaving you smudge free all day! Traditional mascaras can be a pain to remove. Even if they aren’t waterproof, they still usually require a makeup remover or cleansing oil/balm to get them off, and even then end up tugging at your lashes! With tubing mascaras, you might think they’re hard to remove because of the budge-proof polymers coating your lashes. But, they’re actually super easy to remove! Apply warm water and gently dab the eyelids with downward movements with a cloth or fingers and the little tubes fall off lashes. No need for makeup remover or cleansing oil/balms and no tugging at your eyes! You might also wonder if they’re so easy to remove with water, then they definitely aren’t waterproof and will end up coming off if your lashes get wet (from rain, crying, swimming, etc.). But, again, tubing mascaras will hold up well through that! They need the gentle pressure applied along with the warm water. So, if you get your lashes wet, as long as you aren’t applying any gentle pressure to the lashes the tubing mascara will stay in place! Tubing mascaras have tons of benefits - Don’t irritate or flake, so great for sensitive eyes. Great for hooded eyes because they won’t transfer onto hoods. Great for oily lids since they won’t be broken down by oils and smudge. Easy to remove. Amazing at holding a curl! Traditional mascaras are like applying layers of paint, adding more and more product that weighs down lashes, which leads to losing any natural curl or curl done with lash curler. Tubing mascaras are lightweight, applying tubes on each individual lash without weighing them down, allowing lashes to keep their curl! They make lashes look darker and a little longer and fuller. The only thing about them I’ve heard people complain about is that they don’t give amazingly long, full volume false lash effect. They give more NATURAL looking lashes that look darker and a little longer and a little fuller. Though, you can layer them to get more volume and apply more on the tips to get more length. If you don’t feel you’re getting enough length and/or volume from a tubing mascara, you can apply a traditional mascara that you love that gives the kind of lash effect you’re looking for THEN top it with a tubing mascara to lock it in. That way you get the benefits of the traditional mascara without the flaking and smudging because you’ll also get the benefits of the tubing mascara (although, you still MIGHT have a little trouble removing the traditional mascara you put on, BUT the tubing mascara should create a tube over it and help it remove easier than if you didn’t top it off with a tubing mascara). Tubing mascaras are also the best mascara to use if you have lash extensions since they don’t weigh down the lash extensions (so they don’t weaken and fall out quicker) and since they’re so easy to remove you don’t have to worry about tugging or pulling at your lash extensions and having some fall out. They’re also great to apply when wearing false lashes since they’re easy to remove from the lashes keeping them in great condition so they last longer! Like I said before, a lot of mascaras will specifically state if it’s a tubing mascara, but some don’t. Some will just have characteristics that sound like tubing mascaras (e.g., remove with just water, wrapping each lash in a coat). But, that doesn’t always guarantee they’re tubing mascaras. To check and see, look at the ingredients. If it has polymers, then it’s a tubing mascara. Polymers include ingredients like “Copolymer,” polyester, Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), hydroxyethylcellulose, etc. Polymers I noticed on this formula include - Acrylates/Ammonium Methacrylate Copolymer (6th ingredient), Polyester-5 (7th), Acacia Senegal Gum (9th), Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate (11th), and Hydroxyethylcellulose (13th). All the tubing mascaras I have really enjoyed have always had a polymer as the 2nd ingredient, and included others as well. So, I would have preferred to see this have a polymer as the 2nd ingredient, not starting with the 6th ingredient, but it still has polymers in it so it’s a tubing mascara….I just wasn’t sure how well it would work! The applicator is plastic. The applicator is thinner, which I prefer for my really small, really hooded eyes. It is tapered - the top of it is thinner and it widens as it goes down. The bristles on this applicator are really short. I usually like ones that are a little bit longer because I feel they usually separate the lashes better. It had nice flexibility - not too stiff, not too flimsy. I didn’t feel like it grabbed on my lashes well. I think it was the short bristles, but I’m not sure. This claimed to give a “volumizing false-lash effect that lasts all night.” But, then it said it was designed to add “natural-looking length and curl.” In my experience, it’ll do one or the other (unless of course you add multiple coats to get more volume). With this, I got a natural effect. It made my lashes look darker and a LITTLE fuller and longer, but just a LITTLE. This claimed to have an easily buildable and creamy texture. I found the texture to be extremely dry. It wasn’t creamy at all. With traditional mascaras, you usually want to wait until the last coat dries before applying another one. But, with tubing mascaras, it’s best to build the layers while they’re still wet. So you don’t wait for the last coat to dry before going in with the next. This is because tubing mascara binds to itself, not the lash. It wraps around the lash and binds to itself (then when you add water, it reacts like a sponge and expands, releasing the lash, and when gentle pressure is applied it falls off the lash). Since it binds to itself, you have to work while the formula is still wet to build layers. They do make tubing formulas that can be built after the layer dries, but most should be built up while they’re still wet. Since they dry down quickly, you usually have about a minute to build layers. With this, I found it was such a dry formula to begin with, it dried down pretty quickly and didn’t leave me time to really layer it. And oddly enough, when I tried to layer it, it would clump and flake. I’ve never experienced that with a tubing mascara before. BUT, I’ve also never tried one without polymers as the 2nd ingredient and this one didn’t have one until the 6th, so I think that must have made a huge difference. Because this also flaked throughout the day. Overall, I didn’t really enjoy this. I liked the small applicator, but that was about it. The formula seems like it is supposed to be a tubing formula - the way they describe it and that it includes polymers - but it falls short BIG TIME. My guess is because it doesn’t have a polymer until the 6th ingredient, so it just can’t make that polymer coating as well as other tubing mascaras can that have a polymer as the 2nd ingredient. I’m not sure, but that’s how it seems at least. This is the first mascara I’ve tried that had a description like a tubing mascara and had polymers in it, but that flaked. I’ve never experienced that with a true tubing mascara before! So, that’s the only thing I can think of. There’s many drugstore priced tubing mascaras that perform WAY better. So, I can’t recommend this. It falls short big time!
