  • Look what I did
Model: IWS-1632AF
This along with all the plumbing to move a water line in the basement I was being charged $4600 and I refused to pay that for a simple plumbing need. I am a DIYer so I tried it myself and did all the plumbing myself and this tool worked really good. The only problem is it's heavy and hard to get in tight places but I figured that out. Its a great choice because of the price because the electric one was expensive, but it does the same jobs you just have to take your time and make sure the pipes reseated deep in the connection. ... show more

  • VERY Impressed!
Model: IWS-1632AF
Bought this tool over a year ago. Didn't get around to using it till a week ago. A bit apprehensive based on some reviews I read and watched. My "project" was the rework of the piping for my whole home softener. Previously had Pex-B. Wanted copper with shutoff valves for easier bypass operation. Entire project was done with 1" Viega ProPress fittings and type-L copper. After reading reviews, I was somewhat concerned that the 1" crimps would be "too hard". I'm a middle-aged guy of "average" size and strength. The copper fitting to pipe crimps took a decent amount of force, but not "excessive". The brass fittings to copper pipe crimps were noticeably harder, maybe 25% more effort. Reviews were correct, you definitely need space to use the tool. The short side of the 1" tees were a bit challenging to position the tool on, but definitely doable. Not sure if it would be possible with 1/2" tees. Long story short.....The manual crimper is definitely RECOMMENDED if you (1) have the necessary space/clearance to use it and (2) you really only have the occasional need to use ProPress type fittings. The tool is a reasonably heavy, seems well-made and a definite VALUE! Give it a shot, you probably won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Update to Original Rewview
Model: IWS-1632AF
I used this today on my sons boiler and it worked very well. It is a heavy tool because it is built to withstand high pressures. But it is difficult to use in many situations as the handles must be almost all the way out and obstacles are frequent. Requires considerable force to crimp but not as much as I originally thought while seeing other reviews. Good for homeowner who only need it every so often. ... show more

  • It works perfectly fine
Model: IWS-1632AF
A plumber will charge over $100 to come to your house to make a single copper connection. This tool is well worth the money. I’ve seen people complain that it will break easily. I believe that most of these people are gorillas who haven’t figured out the nuances of tools and machinery. Follow the instructions, don’t drop it, and don’t use it as a hammer. You’ll be fine if you can do these things. ... show more

  • Worked Great
Model: IWS-1632AF
Replaced my leaking main shutoff valve and water pressure regulator. Made 3 crimps total. Used Viega fittings. Worked great with no leaks and wasn't hard to compress 1 inch fittings with the arms extended

  • Nifty
Model: IWS-1632AF
I purchased this tool for a smallish project, converting a soaker tub into a shower stall. All of the plumbing was in a relatively small area, so I thought it may finally be time to give the press a try. To begin, the reviews that say it is bulky are mostly correct. There is a degree of heft to the press tool, and lining up the fittings in place, attaching the crimp head and actually making the press does take a bit of muscular gymnastics. I found it more exerting to assure the proper alignments during the set up to press a fitting in place, rather then the actual pressing itself. You absolutely want to do as much pressing as possible ahead of time. It is much easier to assemble your distribution set up for the shower system on the ground, and then just do a few presses in place for the final rough in. Because of the nature of the tool, the jaws need to be spread fairly wide to allow the head to slip around the fitting and snap in place. If your fitting needs to be tight to a stud or the drywall, you cant press. if your fitting is close to a return wall, or deep in a floor cavity or otherwise obstructed, you cant press. The head does rotate, so you can overcome some of those situations, but I'm not sure a manual press tool would be appropriate for a larger project, certainly not for a whole house. For repair work or small modifications, if you have access, this tool is a dream. I would imagine the powered press tools would mitigate some of the access issues i encountered. As an example, I ended up having to install 2 elbows inside of a floor cavity. It was easy peasy to sweat them in place, however, there was no possible way to be in plane with the fitting, inside of the floor cavity, and close the jaws. I could have spread the handles wide enough to fix the head on the fitting, but it would be impossible to close the handles that are now inside a joist cavity, parallel to the floor joists. A powered press could have done it, though. One final caveat is that press fittings are a LOT more expensive than sweat fittings. I hesitate to say how good/bad at sweating you have to be to justify making the switch. In my situation, I ran into the learning curve stumbling blocks, so I don't think I really saved a lot of time vs sweating. I did however develop an understanding of where the tool excels, so for future jobs, I am absolutely certain that I will be reaching for press fittings. ... show more
