It did a nice job keeping everything cold, and feels really tough, but unfortunately after just one year the strap broke. We used it mainly to take beer to my in-laws house just a handful of times (from house to car- to their garage floor) and an occasional boating trip. But nothing extremely rough. So we are pretty disappointed in the product. We basically rented it for 100 dollars for a year. We’ll be doing more research to find a more sturdy cooler. *EDIT* I reached out to IceMule (2021/2years later) about the cooler falling apart at the straps. They did send me a replacement cooler. It looks exactly the same and the fastening system seems to be the same too. Hopefully this one lasts longer and it was just an issue with the coolers made in 2019. I’ll edit this again if anything happens to the replacement (04/23/21) ... show more

    • Rugged, functional, but know what you are buying!

This is a great cooler as long as you understand it's an over nighter or slightly more. Also, I did notice while the majority of the cooler has no condensation issues, the bottom will get a bit damp/wet after sitting a while. I do love the convenience of a backpack cooler however, and for the price it's hard to beat. It feels like it will hold up for quite a long time and has already been to the beach, a race, and several other trips with me carrying some serious weight in beer! I certainly don't think I'd want to carry the weight of anything larger. This is a pretty sweet spot size I'd say. Make sure to clean and let it dry before storage! ... show more

    • Carries as a backpack nicely but does not hold ice well

I would recommend this cooler in a few specific scenarios: almost exclusively drinks when it's mostly full and being carried a long way like >1/2 mile. Or a short day trip also with a long carry. Or a situation where you are a lone camper/hiker going in a short distance and need to have cold food (you can carry this on your front and backback on your back). Any other scenario look elsewhere. I had a mix of food and drinks in 55-75 degree weather in California traveling the coast for 2 weeks. I had this in the car and at campsites. It traveled with me to the Channel Islands for overnight camping. I found most of the ice would melt within 6-12 hours, and stuff would stay coldish but covered in water for the next 8-12. After that it's just kindof a hot box mess with no drain port. I had to put new ice in daily when able. Also not as comfortable to carry when it's not full, although when it is, it's pretty heavy on that one persons back. I noticed the stitching pulling in a not great way at the top and question it's durability. I also sustained several small nicks to the outside through average movement and wear. It feels durable to the touch but it is easily punctured. ... show more

This is my third Icemule cooler... “gave” (or perhaps they were permanently borrowed) the first two to my sons. We all love them and they are very versatile, ie one carried clothes on a one-way flight to FL, carried cold drinks for the grandkids on road trip home. All three have been used hard and are holding up perfectly. Keeps ice longer than any other soft side cooler I’ve owned, including the “Y” brand. Buy one and you’ll instantly become a Icemule fan! ... show more

Can’t state enough how impressed I am with the performance of the ice mile, three hot days on the beach temps in the 90’s ice mule kept everything cold not cool , cold! Every evening when we cleaned it out there was a substantial amount of ice leftover. Used frozen water bottles in the bottom and most were still frozen! Average 7 hours a day! ... show more

The strap ripped after a couple uses. Hoping to get a return to see if it was a malfunction or not. I’ve heard this brand is good but the particular one we purchased did not hold up. We purchased in April and by June it had ripped. Maybe used 3 times.

I’m thrilled with this cooler. I wasn’t sure at first but it held the ice all day & was easy to use. It stood on its own so didn’t fall over in the sand, beside my chair, was easy to open & close. Also great size without being to big, fit several bottle beer, big smart waters, a large tervis w drink, a juice little, food for a day @ beach & plenty of ice. Easy to fold over & seal. And I had no issues using the backpack. Really freed up my hands so I could carry beach chair, umbrella & bag. I have friends w big name, expensive coolers & did research for almost a year before finally committing to the ice mule, I’m glad I bought it. Worth every penny & lots of pennies less than the other brands. Also, I read another review that said the large version was big enough & the XL would be too big. I agree with that. My husband has a ice cooler addition. We honestly have all the brands for all the types of coolers. It's a sickness. I bought this as a father's day present for him for our beach trip. This bag cooler is so easy to carry & its a god-send not having to deal with the cooler zipper the other brands think is a good idea. Holds ice just as it claims.
