  • Unassuming but incredibly impressive
I found out about the HyperX ChargePlay Clutch via youtube and was fascinated by the value proposition this product offers. I myself have a launch version of the Switch meaning that portable battery life is acceptable but not ideal at 2-3 hours for me depending on the game. But rather than upgrading to the latest SKU Model of Switch, I wanted to give this a try as I've found myself playing in Portable mode more than docked these days. And after doing a bit of research and reading available reviews online I decided to take the plunge. Pros: - Very Sturdy, the build quality is nice - Ergonomic design, it's quite comfortable in the hands (*Weight aside, I'll talk about that in the cons) - Secure and Stable once attached, no wobble or anything of that nature - Extends the Switch's battery life when playing long sessions in portable mode - Versatility, Has a beefy kickstand in the back and the handles on either side of this case can be turned into a controller accessory when the joycons are attached. - LED Indicators in the back to let the user know the battery life of the case - USB-C port in a non-intrusive part of the back in order to charge the case while continuing to play (If that situation arises) - Cutouts on the case that don't block off the ventilation areas of the console on the back and top for airflow - Low profile design aside from a bit of HyperX branding which is to be expected Cons: - It makes the Switch noticeably heavier, I can't really fathom playing something where gyro controls are heavily used like in Splatoon 2 for long periods of time with this on. It's not impossible, but I'm sure it would get uncomfortable after awhile. However that's more of a nitpick and may vary from person to person. I'd rather this be a bit heavy and sturdy than flimsy and weak. - It adds a surprising amount of bulk to the Switch which can be a good or bad thing depending on the person. This can be a negative in that if you already have a case, more than likely this won't allow you to fit your console inside it if you wanted to carry it all together instead of the accessory and Switch separately. I'm sure there are many solutions to this, but it's worth mentioning. *Roughly the size of the Wii-U Gamepad when attached to the console. Overall I think this is a must-buy accessory aside from a screen protector and a pro controller. More so for people that game a lot in portable mode whether that be just at home or on-the-go. The extra battery life and build quality alone is worth the price of admission, though having the sturdy kickstand, LED Battery life indicator, and pseudo-controller utility is great as well. I'm excited to put this to work once Animal Crossing: New Horizons comes out. I'll update this review in a years time to let you know if any of my opinions on this product have changed. Update (3/2/21): The charge is still holding up really well, and the product itself is in really good condition. Granted I haven’t really traveled with it (not that I could given the current times). Overall I'm happy I purchased this and feel like I’ve already gotten my money’s worth from a year ago. I've already had my fill of Animal Crossing, but will definitely be using this a lot again once Monster Hunter Rise releases towards the end of this month. I’m a pretty big MH fan and will without a doubt pour countless hours into this coming title. Glad the Switch is finally getting a MH built from the ground up catered to the platform and it's hardware. ... show more

  • Great productive for people with big hands.
I love it. It works well. Adds 4-5 hrs of life to my old generation switch. I like the weight added (it does add a lot of weight btw) holding the switch by itself has always felt awkward to me due to the weight and slimness. The ergonomic handles really feel good in the hand (obviously not as good as an xbox or ps4 controller) but better than the feel of the switch. BUT PLEASE!!! DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE LITTLE OR MEDIUM SIZED HANDS. I have larger hands and this controller and charger feel well, but my wife has little hands and does not like it. She says it feels uncomfortable and the triggers feel off. ... show more

  • Love it!
This is exactly what I've been looking for. I've wanted a battery pack to extend my play as well as grips to help with holding the Switch for long periods of time. This does both very well. Taking the grips off and using them to hold the joycons while the switch is still attached to the battery pack and kickstand it great! The grips feel better than the grip that comes with the switch. It ends up being a little wider and that feels great to my hands. There is only two disadvantages I see. One, this pretty much makes it so the switch wont fit in any case you may have. Now I've not does a lot of looking so there may be one out there that this fits. That being said, if you get a screen protector the HyperX would protect the rest of the switch pretty good. Second, I wouldn't recommend taking the grips off and playing with just the battery pack attached. The battery is heavy and having that stress on the joycons by themselves may break something. Although that might be me being over cautious. ... show more

  • So far, so good, but they are heavy
I got two of these for each of my twins to use with their Switches. They are constantly tethered to a power source since the Switch uses so much battery for gaming. I figured these would be a sure hit for them. Well, one kid likes it and appreciates it, but the other does not like using it at all. Like others mention, they are heavy and bulk up the Switch significantly, so it becomes a little uncomfortable in hand. But, in the 3 weeks they've been using them, they haven't been getting hot and have saved the twins from having to be tethered to a wall or cord. One huge deal is that if you are using wireless headphones, you can't with this b/c the dongle shares the same port as the charger. I recommend if your gamer uses wired headphones and doesn't mind the extra heft. ... show more

  • not for me
Really no reason to have this for me. I got it because I sit in the back with my baby while my husband drives and I play my switch but it dies fast. Got this thinking it would help and it didn't. I turn it on, its working, and then I am playing for 2 hours then I get the 15% signal. I check the charger and its off with full battery. Turn it back on keep playing 5% signal comes on.....why does it keep turning off????? When it does work it doesn't even extend the battery for 2 hours. A phone brick is better than this. ... show more

  • Great quality, sturdy build
Just received this product. It's very sturdy and the detachable joycon holders are magnetic, so they lock right in place. So glad I found this product, I needed a kickstand and a decent battery to charge it. HyperX has a great line of products. This will be an excellent addition!

  • IT FITS THE OLED!!
Hello, If you haven't got your hands on one of these GET ONE! This product fits the OLED Switch snuggly. If you have the Mumba Case Travel (Big One) it also fits inside as well! Thank you!

  • Excellent!
I purchased this for my college age son for his switch and he loves it. It has a pop out stand on the back so you can stand it up. You can choose to slide the controllers in on each side or you can take the sides off and they snap together magnetically to use as one controller. The battery has lasted multiple all day trips without fading. The only negative is the difficulty to pop out the back so it can be a stand. It’s harder to do without fingernails. Other than that it’s excellent and I am planning to purchase another for my niece. ... show more
