I purchased both the HSS “Rope Style Tree Strap” and the “Quick-Connect Tree Strap” and this review covers both. Disclaimers first – I am new to this sport and have not used this equipment in the field yet. However, a couple of issues are apparent upon opening the package. The first issue is the packaging itself. It is nearly impossible to open - no scissor in the house/garage would cut the plastic and I contemplated using a band saw to open it. I ended up using a knife, but that requires putting sharp edges in extremely close proximity to the cordage/webbing that I'm going to use to stay safe. Much too easy to inadvertently cut the product with this level of packaging. Second issue - most of the climbing recommendations that I read stated that if the carabiner doesn't have load rating stamped on the side - don't use it. The HSS carabiners do not have a marked load rating. Finally, the ends of the line used to form the prussic knot are joined with a simple overhand knot with a metal band to keep the free ends together. Sources differ, but the overhand knot has about 50-60% of the cordage break strength while the double fisherman's knot (recommended by all climbing references I could find for forming a prussic loop) retains about 75% of the cordage strength. This seems inconsistent with all of the HSS focus on safety. And the metal clamps in proximity to the metal carabiner also seems inconsistent with the "cowbell" covering used by HSS in their lifeline to eliminate the unwanted metal=on-metal noise. ... show more

Ok, I did not buy this for its intended purpose. I have a StealthCam Trail Camera, and the wimpy 1" wide strap that shipped with it wore away over last winter. So I figured a replacement was in order. My StealthCam has a slot molded into the the back, about 3'16 thick and just less than 2" wide. And my tree is six feet in circumference ( and likely getting bigger every year ). This product fit PERFECTLY. I figure my camera will be securely attached for years, now. VERY PLEASED. ... show more
