I write when something's extremely bad, so I will write when something is extremely good. I've built all my life. I still use regular, old builders level but you need 2 people,but this thing so easy to use. Just a couple of different settings, which I love. Comes in a killer case that you can drop through around, and it'll be. Safe when you're on a job site or home projects.. very, very bright for indoors. And I could actually see it outdoors pretty good but bought a reciever for it. It's actually cheaper than the old builders level.. I don't know how you can beat this for the price. It works great. I bought a cheaper off brand. Laser pulse receiver for it.. The first thing I did was walk out in the middle of the day. It's supposed to be good. For 100 feet I walked out at least 130 picks it up great. I don't see how you could get anything better for home projects and even. Buildings. Commercial. ... show more

    • If Using Outside Get the Laser Detector

I have a red beam laser I purchased for indoor use and was hopeful this green laser would be visible further away outside. I was frustrated when I took the red beam outside for a small fence project and couldn't see the beam a six feet away in non direct sunlight. The green light is more visible then red and easier to see indoors. Moving outside on an overcast cloudy day under a patio cover I can only see the beam to about 10 feet, if the sun were out forget it. Using the included green target plate it extended range to about 18 feet. I was hopeful it would go 15 feet without anything on a cloudy day but that is not the case. Either way I found it only slightly more visible outside than my other red beam laser. With that I went and purchased their laser detector. I walked out 100 feet and had no problem getting the signal. For the all-in-one options I feel the price is reasonable although with the laser detector it brings price to around $200. The unit is well built and the carrying case is well designed and protective. It would be nice if the carrying case had a slot for the laser detector. I have a stockpile of rechargeable AA batteries (this unit takes 4 and are included (alkaline) with purchase) so I'm not worried about battery life, what would be a pain is to have to change out in the middle of a job. The red laser I have lasts a very long time on a charge and if I think I will be a while on the job I will likely use it instead. Laser detector runs on one 9V battery which was included, I would have preferred AA here too. It seems there always some trade-offs. ... show more

I'm a landlord who does most my own renovations and improvements. I do construction type work regularly but not commercially. I usually work alone. I found this laser to be very useful in my last kitchen remodel, especially when setting cabinets. Layout on walls without a helper is much faster now. It's easy to see exactly where everything will be at one time, and make adjustments, without having to mark lines everywhere. Layout is faster, easier and more accurate. The rotary function made leveling the cabinets a breeze. The line is just fat enough to be easily visible and split on all four corners of a cabinet run at one time. This guarantees the entire cabinet top is both level and straight (will shown any sagging/crowning) at a glance. You have to see it in action to appreciate how awesome this is. The vertical laser was especially useful in fastening cabinets to the wall. Being able to superimpose the location of a stud from marks near the floor to the inside of the cabinets is fast and foolproof. You don't cover up your layout line with the thing you are trying to mount. I even used the vertical point laser to transfer a center mark on the ceiling for installing light and then used the vertical line to align the 4' fixture without having to make any marks on the ceiling that might not be covered. I have used it on a few other projects since then and this has been useful in flooring layouts, hanging doors and shelving etc. Also useful as a reference line to measure from when installing paneling or drywall. I did not do any rigorous tests to confirm its accuracy, but over the distances used in general interior work it is at least as accurate as trying to use a high quality spirit level and string or anything else common to general carpentry. I checked. It's certainly easier and faster. The self leveling feature has a wide range and settles in within a second or two. The line brightness/visibility is also excellent on most surfaces (some hardwood floors being an exception) not in direct sunlight. All of the functions are easy to understand and operate, and it comes with a nice soft case to protect it when not in use. The quality of the whole kit really surprised me, especially for the price. I haven't used the pulse laser feature, but will probably buy the laser detector for a retaining wall project I have coming up.
