  • No more ink cartridges
First of all, I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with ink cartridges anymore. I like that this printer has actual ink reservoirs that you can fill up with bottles. I’ve only used it a couple of times, but I feel like this ink is going to last me forever. Super easy set up watching a YouTube video with step by step instructions. From what I’ve seen so far, the print quality is very, very good. ... show more

  • So far so good
It works fine so far. The large capacity ink tanks are great. Connecting it to my computers was easy. Works at a reasonable speed, quiet and quality is good. The scanner works fine.

  • So close to getting a printer right, and yet, so far. Software set-up remains curiously encumbered.
The obvious draw for this series of HP printers is the solution to the perpetual low-ink condition with HP and Brother brand home printers. I was ecstatic to see that HP had finally figured out how to just let the user pour in a bottle of ink, and go. That seems so simple a concept. I'm not sure whether the leak-proof cap is necessary either, but my primary issue with this printer turned out to be the set-up software. 1. Why is it necessary to follow a set-up script to enable features? Why not just let the user put the ink in the tanks at his/her discretion? I kept hitting a wall with trying out the scanner because prior steps in the set-up process hadn't been completed - and there's no indication about requirements for using the scanner. 2. Why is it necessary to align the print heads before continuing. It's a new printer after all. 3. Why is it necessary to include an intricate orange plastic insert for the print head compartment, only to discard it. How much engineering & resources went into a complex insert that is superfluous and only used for one-time transport? Bottom line for me is that there haven't been any improvements with the user interface for set-up. It would be much better to actuate all the printer features immediately and then inform the user what needs to be done yet to enable printing. Sheesh. I was ready to call the printer a donation when the scanning feature refused to be made available due to a completely unrelated missed step in the set-up script. Sadly, although the printer itself is well-engineered, some seemingly simple design flaws with the software set-up bring the wonder to a screeching halt on initial unveiling. The printer reads on the box as though it will work immediately, but that turned out to be anything but the case. Skip the set-up script and this printer is golden. One other footnote - you CAN access the print heads by obstructing the print head carriage while it is in motion, on start-up. This is not endorsed by HP which states that only if a print head error is issued will the print head carriage move to the center of the window for maintenance. I think if the print heads can be maintained for replacement they ought to be available anytime really for inspection or general evaluation. ... show more

  • Ink leaking from the print head. Does not work.
I really dislike HP. I received the product and plugged it in. The ink and print heads were already installed. I plugged it in and received an error message saying the print cartridges defective (not exact words). This is a tank printer, there are no cartridges. I called HP and waited for about 20 minutes to work through the queue. Finally a rep answered and I had to explain the problem over and over. She then asked me to remove the print heads (tricky to get out). While pulling them out, I got ink all over my hands. She then had me reinstall them (more mess) and reset the printer. I did so and got the same message. She then told me to take the print heads back out and clean them with a damp cloth (more mess). I did and put them in again. same message. She finally determined (after placing me on extended hold) that the print head was defective. Finally, after approximately 2 hours on the call she offered to send me a new unit, as the print heads are not available individually. She then sent me (a day later) a mailing label in order to send the printer back. Once they receive it back, she says they will send me a new one. We'll see. Update: received a replacement printer about 1-1/2 weeks later. Seems to be working now. We have an autistic son who wants random pictures printed. Downloaded the 123HP app in order to print from my phone. Guess what, can’t do it unless you pay. I really don’t like HP. ... show more

  • Not so great at Photos
Ordered and received .. all good. Set up and print function was good. Attempted to print a photo and it was terrible. I aligned and cleaned the heads mulitiple times. Message finally came up that I needed a new cartridge. I'm thinking a brand new printer needs a new cartridge ??? If it needs a new cartridge shortly after purchase, what is the ong term ability of this unit. In the past I've been content with HP. Did send this one back and bought a different model HP and it works just fine. I think in sumation, the unit I got was not 100% but just be aware that it did happen. ... show more
