  • Great all-in-one machine at an economical price
Style: New Version
I wasn't expecting a lot from the OfficeJet Pro 9125e. I've had several other home printers in the past, including a laser printer (great because it uses dry toner which doesn't have the issues an inkjet printer typically has, but is only able to print black and white). I've had several inkjet printers, but they all end up having clogged print heads or something that renders them useless after a short amount of time. I thought I'd give this a try, as it could replace my other printers. It's meant for a small office, as it has pretty high duty cycles. I don't print a lot; usually recipes, legal documents, and coupons. I may start printing some newsletters for an organization I'm in, so this may work out well. It can print borderless pages, which would make some nice newsletters! Setting up the printer was fairly straight-forward. The printer was packaged nicely, in a bag with a handle that allows you to pull it from the box easily. The included quick-start guide tells you to plug it in, turn it on, select a language and country, and then go to a URL to set the printer up on your computer or phone wirelessly. The first step is to open the paper tray and load the paper. Adjusting the paper tray for letter-sized paper was a bit confusing, as there are little tabs you have to press to adjust the size of the paper tray. It wouldn't shrink down to the size of the paper, so I just pushed the paper all the way to the back and pushed the tray in. The printer then said it was checking the paper, and said it was successfully loaded. Installing the ink went fine. Then it wants to print an alignment page. Once printed, you put it on the scanner bed, and it scans. That went fine as well. Finally, install HP Smart Printing on the computer and scan for new printers. It didn't find it on the first try, but did on the second. Connecting was quick and easy. It even got the wifi password from the computer. Once connected it automatically updated the firmware. I didn't realize it, so I tried printing something and couldn't. Then the printer chimed and said the firmware was updated. Print quality is fantastic, as is the speed of printing. I enrolled in the HP+ and Instant Ink trial. I got an email saying my new ink cartridges were being shipped, even though I don't need them yet. I'll probably cancel the Instant Ink after the trial, as I don't print a lot, but it may be worthwhile for people/offices that do. Time will tell if the print heads last. Hopefully! ... show more

  • Fantastic Home Office System System- HP OfficeJet
Style: New Version
The HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e Series is a fantastic option for home or small business. It is a durable printer that quickly produces quality documents. A unique item for this multi-device system, it has both a scanner and duplex document feeder. I can't wait to test that. A few key items during the setup. * The printer cartridges are in slots. The installation felt like it has to be more precise than other models. Once the cartridges are recognized, then the print heads were easy to align. * The HP Smart wizard was very simple and seemed straight forward to me. * Once the printer was on the Wi-Fi, it was very easy for all devices in our household to connect. * Unfortunately, I missed the time limit sign up for HP+ which, their service that includes 3 months of Instant Ink and an extra year warranty. You have to sign up within 7 days of setup. Usage: 1. On first activation, the printer takes a few moments to align the printer cartridges. This may seem loud in a very quiet room. After the first time, I expected the setup noise. 2. My power cord seems a bit touchy. A slight bump and the printer turns off. I'm going to try a cord replacement since it is a standard type. 3. The control panel has a fantastic pivot option. You can adjust it to better and operate the panel. No more neck strain from reading the panel. Overall, I'm enjoying the print speed and quality with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e Series. I can't wait to see what else it is capable of once I get comfortable with the machine. ... show more

  • Scanner Unworkable for Apple/Mac Users
Style: Old Version
I cannot recommend this product for Mac users using iCloud, and who require a reliable scanner as part of an all-in-one printer/scanner/fax package. My difficulties are outlined below. If you are a Mac user requiring an efficient means to scan documents easily to iCloud, I suggest looking elsewhere. I have been a loyal HP customer for many years so have no particular axe to grind. However, it is difficult to understate my disappointment with HP’s 9010 series printer. I purchased an HP OfficeJet 9015e printer to replace my aging HP Office 6970 all-in-one printer that I used approximately 25% for casual every-day printing and 75% for scanning paper documents to PDFs for my personal electronic filing system in tandem with Apple’s iCloud service. Here is my experience: - Far too many non-interoperable features, sites and products: HP offers an array of services, features and sites that rely on one another to work but have so far failed me. These include hp.com, HP+, Instant Ink, HP Easy Scan, HP Support and—worst of all—HP Smart. HP Smart in particular has proven problematic for me, with an unintelligible site map that theoretically allows one to update settings and correct problems between sessions. I consider myself reasonably intelligent but am unable to effectively navigate HP Smart to repair problems that occur after every scanning session.
 - Product NOT designed for Apple/Mac/iCloud users: The HP 9010 short-cuts can be configured to scan to web-based file services including Drop-Box, Google Docs, and many other on-line storage services…EXCEPT Apple’s iCloud. Disappointing, but not necessarily fatal, provided I can save to my iMac desktop which the 9010 series appears as if it can. See bullet point below for my experience attempting to do so.
Additionally, each time I visit HP Smart it constantly reminds me to get a program update which, upon further examination, refers to some Windows-based update. I finally stopped checking--I wouldn't even mention it except HP "knows" I own a Mac and the product is purportedly "Smart." Why keep reminding me of something irrelevant? - Short-cuts are useless for reliably scanning directly from the printer to iCloud or to a Mac desktop folder: A feature called “Shortcuts” should allow one to set up ‘tiles’ on the printer display for repetitive tasks, but these short-cuts always break—100% of the time—after each session and after multiple, literally hours-long calls to HP Support and being transferred among many technicians in different departments. In my case, all I want it to do is what my HP 6970 did in a snap: When I place a document on the scanner glass or ADF, and press a button on the display window, to have it scan directly to a “For Filing” folder I use as a holding pen before re-filing the PDF at my convenience. But at each scanning session, my printer’s ‘For Filing’ short-cut advises the printer is unable to connect to the network, though a quick check reveals it is clearly connected, and printing or scanning to it from the nearby computer works just fine.
 - HP Support: I’ll give the good people at HP Support an ‘A’ for effort, but it requires uncommon patience and hours of time to reach someone who can help, and then their solution works only for that scanning session. Their best technicians had to scour the HP community site to find a solution enabling scanning to work for my Mac. Despite spending about 3 hours on the phone I was grateful the first time they resolved the issue. When their solution ‘broke’ upon my very next scanning session, I had set aside still more time to fix it again. I ended up spending more than 3 hours AGAIN with HP Support, though I had the good sense to write down what they did. In neither session were they able to tell me what I did wrong.
And it broke again on my next session. - HP security monitoring inhibits use: To use the 9010 series, one must agree to remote security monitoring by HP in order to avail oneself of the best features and the offered warranty extension, presumably to force usage of their expensive, proprietary ink. Though intrusive, I nevertheless agreed, but when the device regularly and unexplainably fails to connect to HP monitoring, the device simply ceases to work altogether until resolved. The 9010 seems to have an inordinate tendency to fail to connect to HP (whether via wireless or USB cable), though I can plainly see it is connected to my network and/or via the USB plugged in directly. HP Support is not available on weekends so at that point all I have is little better than a boat anchor. Look, I don't mean to beat up on HP excessively, but I just DON'T HAVE this kind of time to invest in a poorly designed, poorly executed and poorly supported product. ... show more
