Features

  • PL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc.
  • They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast
  • This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds

Description

Light rays, which are reflected by any surface, become polarized and polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. PL-CIR (Circular Polarizing) filters have the same effect, but it is important that you choose the correct version for your camera. They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot. • Good filter at fair price
Size: 67mm
Near tops in quality although there are a few better. this item met my quality standards for the lens I am using it on. I have Caonon L lenses on which I use better filters tan this one. My canon lens for which I purchased this filter is a good lens but not their L series so OK for me using this filter. ... show more

  • Great Circular Polarizer for the 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens
Size: 67mm
This is your standard 3 layer multi coated circular polarizer. It's just as good as all the other Hoya filters I have used. Just behind B+W and even with Heliopan filters in terms of glass quality. I will note that even though I love Hoya filters, sometimes they do ship with the retaining ring bent or broken and you have to request an exchange for a new filter. I kind of freaked out the first time I noticed that when I opened the box, but now I just do a quick inspection when the filters arrive and if it looks perfect and nothing is loose, then I put it on my lens and never think about it again. ... show more

  • There must be better polarizers.
Size: 55mm
First off, I could not get this thing clean when it first arrived. Everything I tried left smears. I finally bought a lens pen lens cleaner and that did the trick. Also, it can be very frustrating using a polarizing filter with an auto-focus camera when the lens is constantly rotating. (Correct polarization depends on proper rotation of the filter.) I also had a hard time getting it off the first time I used it. It is very thin and delicate, and one has to be careful of over-tightening it. (Plus, I made the mistake of putting it on top of another filter.) Years ago I used a polarizing filter with a 35mm camera. I'm not seeing nearly as dramatic an effect with this unit. ... show more

  • Difficult to remove
Size: 72mm
Bought this in October 2009 because it was recommended in my Professional Photography magazine. It does a beautiful job of making blue skies, etc. Unfortunately, since it's made of two parts with one that swivels, trying to remove it from my lens caused the ring that holds the two pieces together to snap and break. It was almost impossible to turn ONLY the ring attached to the lens and not the outer one! Needless to say, I'm very disappointed that I can no longer use this filter since it was quite expensive. Now the outer part falls off all the time. Next time I will buy a less expensive filter. ... show more

  • Works well, even after being dropped
Size: 72mm
Does a wonderful job filtering haze and glare. Make sure you learn how to use a circular polarizer before you try it (sun should be at a 90 degree angle, never directly above you). Also, make sure you adjust this filter by turning it counter clockwise. Otherwise you run the chance of accidentally unscrewing the filter during use and dropping it. That happened to me the first day of use. It fell on the cool deck by my pool, but nothing happened. Still looks like new. Whew! ... show more

  • Not the best, have fun
Size: 77mm
Adjustments vary and the polarization can be difficult to nail down. Sometime quarter of the picture gets polarized. Hit and miss.

  • My favorite polarizer!
Size: 77mm
I am a professional photographer and find Hoya indispensable. It makes all the different to have excellent glass (which is what Hoya makes its filters from). This is a must-have item in any photo bag. Well worth the cost!! Stay away from cheap polarizers like Tiffen. A lens is only as good as the glass covering it. ... show more
