  • Very good read
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Loved the fact that it was a good how to book in real life circumstances. Loved the honesty of good and the not so good experiences. I just wish it was longer 😊

  • This book helps you avoid costly mistakes.
How to Start Your Dog Boarding Business gives you a glimpse into the day-to-day operations of owning/running an animal boarding facility. I recommend reading this book BEFORE you make the investment in a kennel. The author encourages you to start out small, and how to use what you already have. She gives tips and reminders as to what you need to know before you can open a kennel: you need to understand licensing, local laws, and waste disposal, etc. The book talks about how to choose a name for your business and ways to advertise for little to no cost. There are recommendations for books and places to look for further information. This book illustrates the actuality of owning a kennel; it is not just playing with dogs all day. The author writes of the advantages of such a business, but also lets you learn from her mistakes (that alone is worth the price of the book!). Ms. Clarke tells of the challenges she faced in her own business such as a lost dog, discovering animal abuse, pets abandoned by their owners, and pet deaths. Owning a boarding kennel is a rewarding endeavor for those that love animals, but it is necessary to be informed, and prepared for the reality of the pet care/boarding business. This book can prevent many costly mistakes. ... show more

  • Good information and honest about her experiences
My husband and I are planning on opening a dog daycare/boarding facility on our property. I chose this book because Ms. Clark opened her facility on her property, and I wanted to read her experiences on her own land. Our plan is on a larger scale; however, it was nice to read how simply she started. I have a degree in vet med, as she mentioned that some may be ahead of her experience, her drive appealed to me from really starting from the bottom and becoming a successful dog boarding and daycare facility. I know dogs, but the business side I need to work on. I appreciated the resources she provided. I have highlighted all throughout the book and will go back as needed. ... show more

  • Good detail and very captivating
Honestly such a good book with first person experience and advice on what you should do to start a dog daycare. Not a lot of books catch my attention but this book I couldn’t put down.

  • Don't waste your money or time on this book
The back cover of this book is very misleading about how much information is in it. The book is only 80 pages in a large block font with wide margins. The author has no practical dog knowledge and freely admits this. She is basically telling the story of how she "boarded" dogs in homemade pens inside her garage for a couple years. Several of the mishaps she had were quite dangerous and should have put her out of business due to her lack of common sense. She tells tales of having so much business she turns dogs away but when you get to that chapter she mostly has to turn away business due to being intimidated by dogs she can't handle. She states that she preferred dogs under 20lbs because most problems can be solved by throwing a towel over them and picking them up. A common theme for this book is to mention something and then recommend searching the Internet for more information. She says that you will need an accounting system and to Google a small business envelope accounting system because that's what she did. She also says that dog training is a good addition to a boarding business and there are good videos on YouTube for that. This is scary! I would never leave my dog to be trained by someone who has watched a couple youtube videos! If you have any experience with dogs and are actually truly interested in starting a boarding business, skip this book. She has no animal experience, no business experience, and is a terrible author with a useless book. Save your money, and don't be misled by the positive reviews like I was. ... show more
