Description

Starting a Successful Pet Hotel Business Do you love animals? Are you looking for a career that is recession-proof and always in demand? Would you like to be your own boss? You should start a pet hotel business!I have been in the pet care industry for over a decade. I first started working as a receptionist in my uncle’s veterinary clinic at age 18. I had owned dogs and cats in my childhood but never thought about making it a career. When I was thinking about college, I realized that becoming a vet technician was a viable option. When my uncle retired and sold his practice, I worked with the new vet as a tech for a few years. We found ourselves with frequent requests to board animals for the short-term. Usually, these requests came from pet owners who were our usual vet clients going out of town for a few days at a time. We took these dogs and cats in for mostly weekends and holidays. I realized that in my area, the need for quality pet boarding was essential.I started my own pet boarding business out of an old daycare building. The daycare had been closed down for a while, but it had easily convertible facilities for pet boarding. The building had a nearly commercial-sized kitchen and 4 different classrooms, each with its own attached bathroom. It also had a large fenced-in yard which used to have playground equipment and big indoor community space, presumably for assemblies or indoor playtime. A building originally built to house children during the day was easily converted to a building intended to house cats and dogs.My pet boarding business was born on a shoestring budget. In this book, I will show you how to start your own pet hotel from the ground up. This book comes from my personal experiences combined with research that I conducted while starting out years ago. I will show you everything I learned about how to start a dog or cat boarding kennel business (or doggy daycare) so that you can start your business on the right foot. You will learn: What a Typical Day at a Pet Boarding Hotel is Like What Potential Profit this Business Can Bring Why Choosing the Right Location is Important What You Can Expect Your Initial Investment to Be Deciding if This is Right for You What Skills, Experience, and Knowledge is Needed What to Consider Before Starting How to Spot Industry Trends Crafting a Business Plan Advice for Naming Your Business Consider the Owner’s Name Advice for Finding Financing Advice on How to Form a Legal Entity What Permits and Licenses You Will Need Insurance Concerns Construction Concerns (for New Builds or Remodels) How to Determine Costs and Pricing Advice for Amenities to Offer Designs for Cat Boarding Helpful Software for Client and Pet Management Marketing Your Business Building an Online Presence How to Use Your Website for Marketing How to Use Facebook for Marketing How to Use Retention Marketing to Keep Clients Daily Operational Considerations Hiring Your First Employee Retaining Good Employees Effective Daily Management Techniques You will learn about all this and more! • Detailed & In-Depth - A Great Tool
Before I started reading, I half expected this book to be pitching the idea that it’s easy to start your own pet hotel business. To the contrary, the author is very straightforward about the fact that this type of endeavor is far from easy, urging readers to consider every factor before diving into starting a dog hotel. Then, a basic overview is given of the skills, knowledge, and experience needed, along with definitions of basic business terms and foundational steps. I really appreciate that the specific techniques and more elaborate explanations come later, after an easier to digest introduction to the ideas. For example, creating a business plan and executive statement, branding, identifying your market and speaking to your audience, knowing your competition and projecting your sales, pricing, operations, and management; many of these resurface later in the book in much greater detail. However, in a less intimidating, step-by-step approach, the book allows the reader to gradually advance to those closer looks at these concepts when the time is right. This type of structure makes even a complicated combination of countless tasks appear more accessible and less challenging to understand and retain. Another great quality of this book is that it is so thorough, much of the information could potentially be applied to starting other types of businesses. If someone were to want to start a local service business in their area, the backbone of this book would make an excellent checklist when applied strategically. I was surprised at how truly in-depth the information gets. Just when I thought she’d covered everything, I was surprised to learn just how much more there really is to it. Impressively, this book doubly serves as something of a warning to those who might realistically not be cut out for this business undertaking, as well as a detailed guide for those who do knowingly opt to make this dream a reality. No stone is left unturned. It’s clearly the product of a lot of research and experience. ... show more

  • A Terriffic Read for Animal Lovers wanting to Start a Business
I love animals so this book was a great read. I can honestly say that I learned about things that I was truly unaware of. In this book, the author was very detailed and it also showed that the author knew alot about animals, to even have the ability to write this book. This book really does show you how to operate a doggy daycare 🐕. If I wanted to begin to start my own hotel business for animals this would be the perfect book to get to do so. I love cats, I actually have two of them, they are my best friends and I love them. This book also helped me to care more for them as well. Learning how to start a hotel business for your pets from the ground up is the best. This book shows you step by step how to be successful, without leaving out anything that is important. I highly recommend this book to be bought and read, even if you don't want to start your own hotel business. Once again I applaud the author for taking there time and dedication to write this book that I enjoyed so much, and I know you will too. All in all, this was a book that I am glad that I bought. I definitely give this book five stars. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 ... show more

  • Helpful specifics provided
This is a very thorough reference-type book on starting a pet hotel business. The author gives information and advice on specific aspects of it you might never have thought of, so it is very helpful. The section on housing cats, for instance, discusses what materials the cat enclosures should be made of. I think of it as more of a how-to manual than a book to read cover-to-cover because the author doesn't come in with her own anecdotes or personal experiences. I find a book more readable when the author provides some narrative related to the factual information they're presenting. It is great for its purpose though, and the Kindle format and list of topics allows the reader to go to the specific one they need and pull up the information in an instant. ... show more

  • Really pulls you in
Absolutely loving this book! So much information to help you along the way. I enjoy how each sections are broken up into its own individual pieces to help explain more of the topic instead of cramming it into a whole paragraph etc. it really pulls me in to read more.

  • Good, but basic
This book gives a good overview, however it won't give you many tools to solve or to get a better analysis

  • This is a Guide to Getting Your MBA
This book is actually a very thorough guide designed to help start and operate a business successfully, and it uses a Pet Hotel as a model. The information I recieved inside this book will 100% help me as a business manager. Navigating problems stress-free and easily are at the heart of this business bible. Treat it like a prewritten contingency plan for traveling through the unknowns of running your company. And using all this business knowledge to start a pet hotel is very creative. A Pet Hotel wouldn't be my first choice of business to try and open but after reading through this book I might consider it. There potentially is some money to be made with that business model due to the lack of competitors in the Pet Hotel industry. I'm just not sure I'm going to enjoy the smell ... ... show more
