  • It is so detailed and informative.
I just started my saxophone journey last month when I got a saxophone and several “how to” books on my 80th birthday. I find this is the best of all the books I received. It really and clearly tells a student everything one needs to get started.

  • OK as a refresher. Not for beginners.
I decided to learn to play sax after my son quit playing and moved out, so now I own one. Given a choice of classic piano or violin as a little girl in the 60's (but wanting to be a Rock Star and play drums!) I never learned to play an instrument as a kid. I just want to learn how to play notes (without it screeching!) and string them together as a start. Was hoping the Beginners book would at least get me through the first 20 or so practice sessions. Right now all the notes I try sound almost the same to me, else very different each time I try the to play the same note. So need help. This book tells the reader to go find a fingering chart online and practice, and then gets into intermediate techniques. The book is of not much help at all for the true beginner who has never played an instrument. If you had a year or two of sax lessons as a teen, so you already know how to set up & tune a mouthpiece (which all look the same to me!), can tell if your Used (or new Chinese-made?) Sax (and reed set-up) is working correctly or if the problem is you (which a beginner always assumes), and your fingers already know what to do when it comes to making all the basic notes, it is probably OK. ... show more

  • Great introduction or review of the basics.
Logical progression of the basics to playing sax. After 40 years of not playing, needed a review and the step by step approach was easy to understand.
