  • Fun book for alto sax
I am an adult who bought a cheap alto sax (one of the ~$250 ones on amazon) to learn the instrument at home just for fun. I bought this book because I remember having an old disney piano book I would play from when I was learning flute in middle school, and that made learning and practicing a lot more fun than whatever was in the lesson book I had at the time (think "hot cross buns" and "merrily we roll along"). I like that this book has songs from movies as recent as Moana and Frozen, so it's not just classic Disney, although it has some of that too. In all of the songs I've tried, you're basically just playing the melody of the song, so it's obviously not going to sound like an orchestral arrangement. I think when I was reading reviews before purchasing, I thought one person said this wasn't a solo book, but rather for multiple instruments. I may have just misunderstood their review, but I want to clarify that this is definitely a solo book. The only part listed is alto sax, and it doesn't sound or appear like it's necessarily meant to have any other parts joining in. I would call the difficulty beginner/early-intermediate, just because I'm a beginner and I can play all the songs as long as I have a fingering chart handy for when I forget how to play a note. I did, however, go into this already knowing how to read music from playing other instruments in the past. The book isn't instructional in any way; it just has the sheet music written for alto sax. A few songs have high/low notes that are slightly difficult to play as a beginner, and there are songs with various key signatures, but there are plenty that are easier and/or don't have sharps and flats etc. Also should mention the songs sound like they should. If you're a disney fan, you will mostly know how the melody is supposed to go, and for me that helps a ton (I can hear if the note is wrong and I don't have to think as much about timing). There are a few songs where the melody is slightly different than I expected, but usually that's because I was expecting one part to sound like a different part of the song or something like that. In general, that's not a concern. I think the cover of this book made it look a little dated/boring, but I'm glad I took a chance on it, because the music itself has been very well written and fun to play, and has really helped me practice. ... show more

  • Not sure about price, but good quality
I'm not sure how expensive music books are, but the book is of good quality and has a bunch of well known songs. I got this for my daughter who recently started playing saxophone after switching from clarinet and was able to sightread the notes pretty well

  • Great for sight reading.
I bought this book for sight reading and just for fun in general. For playing saxophone for 6 years, this is a great book for beginners and experienced musicians or just for fun.

  • NICE MUSIC BOOK
It's a song book. What can I say?

  • Great book, but more for an orchestra or band than it is for individual use.
I was disappointed in arrangements of the songs. They are mostly for an orchestra of band set up. I was expecting them to play more like the song. With that said, this is a great book for the price and amount of songs within it.

  • Fun to play and Easy to read
I played alto saxophone 30 years ago in high school and just started playing about after a 25 year break and these songs are fairly easy to play for an adult who is probably at a 7th grade level. Some are easy than others. Some songs are in a challenging key signature.
