This book breaks down every step of mine development and where and how the company gets the money to proceed to the next stage. Building a precious metals mining company is expensive, to say the least, so each stage requires additional rounds of financing: 1) The company must pay to dig/drill to find the metal, 2) the company must report whether it is economically feasible to extract it from the ground, 3) the company must purchase equipment, build the mine, build a processing facility, and so on, 4) hire miners to start mining the ore, while avoiding accidents and setbacks, and 5) begin searching for their next mine (because each producing mine is a constantly depleting resource). During all these stages they also have to somehow survive wild booms and panics in the gold/silver price and continually reassure doubtful investors. While the reader may already be familiar with the best known methods of financing such as equity and debt, the book also covers lesser known methods like streaming, joint ventures, and crowdsourcing. Although the book is short, it gives a detailed explanation of all the known methods of financing with examples. Additionally it gives a lot of useful information about what exchanges the stocks of are traded on. One problem a new investor will encounter is that only a few American brokerage firms allow their customers to trade on the TSXV exchange, where most of the precious metals companies are located. There are also exchanges in Australia and London which were completely new to me. I am reading the book as an investor, wondering what other options are available to make money from the mining industry besides the stock market. For this I found the book informative. You will finally understand what the companies are talking about in their annual reports when the mention things like royalties. I am also guessing that the book could be valuable to new mining companies who want to get started but aren’t sure how to get funded. ... show more

I recommend this book to anyone who invests in or is interested in the gold/silver mining sectors. I only wish a book like this had been written 15 years ago, as it would have been helpful to me in doing due diligence in the mining sector. Mariusz Skonieczny lays out the financing options for miners at the exploratory, evaluation, developer and producer stages. Each is different, and each has opportunities and pitfalls. As investors, we need to know the questions to ask to properly do our due diligence. What are the positives and negatives of the financing currently in place? What are the financial options for a particular miner as it moves into the next stage of development? What is the probability that we, as investors, might be hit with an Agreement that can go sour, that can cause bankruptcy? If you are going to invest in gold mining, this book is a major assist in helping you probe for answers to financing issues---before you push the button to order shares. It helps the investor better understand the risk/reward equation, as it pertains to financing.     • Why hasn't this book already been written?
It's hard to believe that there hasn't been a book like this written for the layman before now. It almost seems like every other press release from a gold company concerns financing in one way or another, which means that understanding how gold companies are financed is absolutely essential if you're interested in investing in gold miners. I really like the logical structure of the book. Gold mining companies have various stages of development, which demand different types of financing at each stage. Following from this idea, the book simply breaks down the different stages of life of a gold company and what types of financing are relevant at each stage. Real-life examples are given of how different companies were financed, which is helpful. Overall, this book is an excellent starter's guide to learning how gold companies raise capital.     • Required reading for trading gold stocks
This book explains details of mine financing in the sequential steps from exploration to production. Mariusz cites many real world examples for success and failure ranging from penny stocks to billion dollar valuations. The book contains a great deal of technical information covered in a straight forward presentation. If this is more than what you want to know, stick to ETFs and gold mutual funds. If you are interested in trading gold mining stocks, this book is a must to read (I have read it at least twice). This book is the antidote to the promotional material put out by those who live down to Mark Twain's expression, "A mine is a hole in the ground with a liar at the top." ... show more
