These white quartz pebbles were purchased for a passive humidifier system. (We put natural stone and water in containers over our interior heaters, replenishing the water as needed.) The stones were washed with hot tap water and a bit of soap - water ran clear with no evidence of wax. Upon adding to the hot heater, I noticed a residue coming off in the pan. Stones were removed, washed with 99% alcohol, drained, then brought to a boil with tap water. The picture here is what happened. Notice that the foam appears to be tiny granules.
